My friend Jessica Deane is an amazing photographer.
I love her images.
She just opened an Etsy shop with darling little baby girl headbands. I purchased one last week.

It wasn't here for this session, but I wish it would have been.
It is pure perfection.

Jessica is so cool. She wants to give away a beautiful headband to a Life with Kaishon reader.
How ducky is that?

Blogger Interview with Chelsey Andrews of the Paper Mama

Do you know Chelsey of the Paper Mama?
She is a blogging legend in the Mommy blogger circles.
She is young and fun and always running exciting picture contests on her blog.
Hope you enjoy this interview.

What is your favorite thing to take pictures of?
Well.... I love taking photos of my daughter. BUT, she just moves so darn fast and doesn't really like her photos taken anymore. SO, my favorite thing to take photos of are the little details in things. I love to pull out my 50mm lens and get in close and focus on one little detail of something so busy.

How did you come up with your daughter's name?

Hee, her name was actually inspired by the show, Gilmore Girls. My daughter's name is Laureli.... but, we call her Ruari (pronounced Rory).

Where do you live and have you always lived there?

I live in Oregon. I was born and raised here. When I turned 20 I moved up to Seattle to be closer to my boyfriend (now husband). I lived up in Seattle for 4 years. I LOVED it there.... but, when it came down to deciding to buy a home... there was absolutely no way we could afford a home in Seattle. So, we moved down to Oregon.

Tell us about your tattoos.
I'm currently up to 4 tattoos. My first ever tattoo is a butterfly on my hip. I was 18, so yeah. Ha! I don't like it. It was done very poorly.... and, why do I need a tribal butterfly on my hip? Oh well. It's hidden. Next up came the flower on my foot. Another spur of the moment thing... but, I actually love this tattoo. It's just a simple little flower.
Onto the good stuff. The tattoos I actually took time/care/thought on. I have cherry blossoms on my shoulder with a bee and the same theme on my forearm. I absolutely love cherry blossoms. And, I am happy to have them on my skin. I have 3 bees that represent myself, husband, and daughter. They're done in the grey ink and are very light and feminine. I love them.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I don't know. I guess I just love capturing moments in my life. I have such a terrible memory.... it's a perfect way to remember a good day. I also love that my daughter will have quite the collection of images (i mean.... we're talking thousands and she's only 2) of her growing up.

Do people around you get tired of always being photographed?

Well, my husband just thinks he looks bad in photos. That's so silly! He's a handsome man. I think Ruari just gets tired of me taking photos of her every day. Plus, she's a toddler.

Tell us about your lenses.

I've recently upgraded (yes! yay! woo too!) from a Canon Rebel XSi to my new baby a Canon Rebel 60D. It's been so wonderful. This small upgrade seriously makes all the difference. My poor husband laughed when I was talking about my next upgrade in a couple years.... when I just got my camera a month ago.

My sweet lenses. I bought a kit with my newest camera. I've really wanted a good zoom lens to capture the crazy kiddo. Now I have one! My Canon came with an 18 - 135 mm. It's pretty massive... but, so nice to have! And, on to my favorite lens: my 50 mm 1.4. That is mostly the lens I always keep on my camera. It's my best friend.

What was your major in college?
I went to college for interior design. I finished up in 2007.... couldn't find a job.... got married.... had a kid.... and, now here I am. But, I'm not sad about never becoming an interior designer. I use the knowledge and tools I gathered from school in my blogging world now. I fit in school...but, I think I'm so much happier doing what I'm doing now: a blogger and illustrator.

If you didn't need to earn an income any longer and could do anything you wanted each and every day, what would you like to do?

What's really silly or great is I'm already doing what I love! I'm in love with this blogging world. It's reintroduced me to my love for photography, drawing, and I'm meeting new and amazing people all over the world through this online world! It's amazing.

Is there a hobby you always wanted to try but never seem to have the time or money for?

If I really didn't have to worry about money.... I'd be able to afford some preschool for my girl and I'd have a little more time to craft and do every single DIY I dream about!

What is your favorite perfume to wear?

None. Perfumes sort of give me headaches. Although, I can handle fruit scented candles and sprays. My favorite smell is apple pie.

It seems like you were an overnight sensation in blog land. Tell us about your blogging journey.

Oh, Ha! Well, it started on April 1st, 2010. I was desperately in need of finding other mama's that had newborns and to know I wasn't alone with my postpartum depression. From there I discovered photo challenges.... followed shortly by finding Ashley Sisk (she's the best) and, I was hooked. I rediscovered my love for photography and was participating in every photo challenge I could find. I started taking self photos... which led to hair tutorials. And, I don't actually know what happened... people just kept coming back and new people were showing up and I kept growing. It still sort of blows my mind.

How many pets do you have?

I have 2 cats (Princess and Pistachio) and one little Chihuahua (Angus). They are my furry kids. Princess is a weirdo and does really odd things but, is really sweet. Pistachio is sort of a punk and likes to pick on the others.... but, he loves to cuddle. And, Angus is the baby. He's smaller than the cats and just wants to sleep allllll the time. Mostly in my lap.

What time do you usually get up in the morning? I seriously laughed my head off at your linger picture in your Sunday post. FUNNY!

I wake up at 6 am Monday - Friday.... only because that's when the kid wakes up. Too early if you ask me. Luckily, on the weekends, my husband likes waking up early and he let's me sleep in. That's when I recharge.

When you have to pick your photo challenge winners is it hard? Do you feel like you are going crazy?
I've been hosting my photo challenge for 2 years this May and it's hard each and every weekend to pick winners! Seriously.

What is your favorite thing about Etsy?

I like that it's very easy to use for a handmade business. I have been selling on Etsy since 2008. It's such a great thing! I never would have thought I could make money creating and doing what I truly love.

What is your favorite thing about facebook?

I like that I can connect with people that I either lost contact with.... or, that I've met through blogging. But, I'm mostly on Instagram and Twitter. Those are my favorite social medias.

Do you consider blogging work? I know you have said in the past that you blog about 50 hours a week. Do you earn income from your blog?
Yes, my blog and shop are now work. Work I LOVE to do. I am making some money, not a ton. Just enough to pay a couple small bills. Which is a wonderful thing. It's nice to have a little extra money when you have little emergencies. But, this month has been very slow for my custom illustrations. I didn't realize how much I was relying on that income until this month. Which reminds me: anyone need a custom illustration? Hee!

How did you start earning income on your blog?

I really started earning money through custom illustrations first. Plus I'm a member of the Clever Girls Collective. That can bring in a bit of money. I'd really recommend them if you're interested in earning some money through blogging.

Do you have anything else you want to share?

I get quite a few emails from people asking how to start blogging. I know it can seem intimidating... but, it's really not. You just need to do it! If you want to blog: blog. And, if you want to earn money from your blog: that will take time. You need a readership first and content. So, it all comes back to just blog. That's what I recommend.
