'Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life!' ~Albert Einstein

The theme at i heart faces this week is family.
Family.
I love family.

I was so blessed this Autumn to photograph a large number of families
for their Christmas cards.
I have picture after picture of pretty families
in fields, on benches and under bridges.

I was looking at the choices tonight and trying to pick the best one.

You know,
the Mom with the most perfectly styled hair.
The Dad with a real smile and not a grimace... ; )
and the kids with eyes smiling straight into the camera.

I have a lot of perfect choices.

Just as I was getting ready to make my selection,
I remembered this family.

This family that I photographed for the Chestnut Hill Local.
This family that is struggling with the aging of the parents.
This family that has nurses helping day in and day out.
This family that is getting ready to say goodbye to their mother and their father after many years of happiness.

This family has a story.
A story of love and loss.
A story of overcoming obstacles.
A story of survival.
I love their story.

I love the moms I photograph with perfect hair.
I love the children that smile straight into the camera.
I even love the Dads that grimace....
but this I love because it is real.
Because it is nitty gritty.
Because it is life.

Life is beautiful when you have perfect hair and perfect smiles
and even when you need a nurse to comb your hair and you are struggling to remember the name of your spouse.

Life is always beautiful.
Wishing you a week filled with beauty and love.
May you treasure the ordinary moments.

So true. And sometimes under the perfect hair, isn't the perfect family you think is there. I love the photo too.

So beautiful and so true! You captured a loving moment that shines through the heartache and the challenges of aging parents that I remember so well from when my mom's parents were beginning to fade. Thank you for (as always) helping me remember the precious moments!

It must be so difficult to be around loved ones who cannot remember you. I like the photo of the older woman in the wheel chair in the multi-generational photo. Thank you for sharing the real pictures, about real life.

This one just makes you fast-forward to the end of your life and hope and pray it's surrounded with family! I DO love this photo because it IS raw.

The Raw of life...You have captured pain, sadness and joy all in one shot.
The edginess of shooting it in black and white is perfect.
I have to admit that it brought a lump to my throat.
I have been in that same situation.
Good stuff Becky.

BECKY! This is quite possibly one of my favorite pictures you've ever taken (well, except for all the Kaish stuff - his pics are my very very favorite, but setting those aside ... THIS is MY FAV!!!). the littlest one beginning her life, one in the middle years and those in their ending years juxtaposed perfectly together, connected, and wholely authentically captured. LOVE.

You picked the perfect family, since no one is really perfect. Family is all about loving what is given to us and going through it together. Great picture!
