Grump happens.

Dear anonymous blog person friend-o-rama,

I have been so grumpy lately.

Grumpy when I wake up.
Grumpy when I work.
Grumpy when I mother.
Grumpy. Grumpy. Grumpy.

Kaish is enjoying middle school.
I think.
You know how extensive his communication about his day is, right?
Let me give you a little sample:
Hi Kaish-meister! How was your day Sweetie?
Fine.
How is your homeroom? Is Mrs. Blah Blah nice? How are your friends? How was your Science experiment? How do you like lunch? Who did you sit with today? Yadda Yadda Yadda.
Fine.
Do you have anything else to tell me about your day? Any detail at all?
Fine.

See what I mean?

Let me tell you Gary's hours last week at work just for fun : )
Sunday: 6 AM to 12 PM (17 hours)
Monday to Thursday: 7 AM to 9 PM (14 hours)
Friday: 6 AM to 10:30 PM (16.5 hours)
Saturday: 6 AM to 11 PM (17 hours)
Sunday: 7 AM to 12:30 AM (17.5 hours)
Does that blow your mind? It blows my mind.
He is grumpy too. Holy cow.

He took a vacation day yesterday and today.
YAY for rest.
I think he has pneumonia though.
He is hacking and hacking and pretty miserable.
Of course he won't go to the Dr.
Typing this made me grumpier. : )

And to top it all off, I am watching the Rachel Zoe show and she is like 59 weeks pregnant and she keeps complaining about how fat she is...
let's just say this, at 59 and half week pregnant,
she is skinnier than I was in the freaking 7th grade.
I am not even kidding.

Thank you for listening to me.
On happy days.
And sad days.
Every day...
You are the best.

Love, {Grumpy to the Max} Beckster

Oh yes, they all go through it. He's just being normal. At least he isn't saying "School was awful. It sucks, and I quit."
Of course, that might be next year, or the year after. LOL
Enjoyed your photos. I hope Gary doesn't have pneumonia. I've had it and it's no fun.

No clue who Rachel Zoe is but boy I hope she's not actually 59 1/2 weeks pregnant.

Hope your day gets a tiny little bit better now! :-) Your photos are lovely!

Aww...sorry you have the grumps, though I must say you're still way fun when you have the grumps. And poor Gary! What awful work hours. He must be exhausted!! Ugh. Buuut...better busy than not, I guess. In the meantime, LOVE your photos. That first one of the tree? Um...GORGEOUS. Also those cookies totally made me jones for cookies and now I have to go make some. :)

we all hav grumpy days, but I know how you feel, my daughter answers almost the same way, my partner works away most of the time, the weather is windy and wet over here so I feel a bit like you today as well :)

We are all allowed to be grumpy every once in a while. And yeah, Kaish has hit "that" age. You can pretty much expect not to have a real conversation with him for the next few years.

Mari said...

We all have those days I'm afraid! I think Gary has a good reason to be grumpy - those are awful hours!
I have never heard of Rachel Zoe, but I know the type. :)
And you can plan to hear the whole "fine" thing from Kaishon for some time, if he's anything like my kids!

Love ya even when your grumpy you make me smile!! I hope Gary is feeling better....what the heck does he do that he works so many hours...how can he physically and mentally do it.
I hate to say it the "fine" answers continue into HS it's like they know they are punishing us with little or no facts!

((hugs)) to a better day!

Sorry you are grumpy Becky! But Kaish is rocking his planner, so that's good, right? It seems just wrong to have anything in this world that chocolate chip cookies can't cure.

We need to find Gary a new job. Maybe he can be your photography business manager and personal assistant. ;-) Love to you!

Amy Cappelli said...

You are completely entitled to have grumpy days. You are human, after all :-) But, it is no fun when you are in the throes of surly times. This too shall pass.

Your 'conversations' with Kaishon are very familiar. It is about the extent to which I can get my 12 year old to open up to me. You are doing a great job with him. Keep trying because one day, as was the case the other night with my son, he will have something he really needs to confide in you and he'll know that you are ready, as you always are, to listen and guide him. My kid doesn't say much, but what does come out of his mouth blows us away. Kaishon is just storing up all the good bits- saving them for the right moment:-)

Hang in there!

I had a grumpy day several days ago and I didn't like it one single bit! Made me feel not like my usual self. Thankfully, it all passed after a day and I feel like the old me is back! So, just remember, it's a temporary state of mind and we all go through it. Tomorrow WILL be a better day...I feel it!

Now, as for Kaish not telling you about his day, I can assure you that the older they get, the less information you can gather from them. Abby is a freshman in high school and she hardly utters a word about her day when I ask. Of course, if I just lay low for awhile and not pressure her to talk right when she walks in the door, she will sometimes open up to me and just chat away. I LOVE moments like that!

Gary SHOULD be grumpy. And he SHOULD go to the Dr. as well.
You grumpy??? I don't really believe it...but then again, Rachel Zoe can do that to a person. :)
Lovely photos!!!

oh girl i've been a grump lately too. it sucks! no wonder you're grumpy...your man's grumpy and gone all the time. and watching rachel zoe would make anyone feel fat. i can't even believe she's pregnant. that photo shoot of her and her husband on the bed. i was like...WHAT?...she's pregnant?? where??

It's all good to be grumpy every once in a while...especially with the things that are thrown our way these days. Hugs to you!

ChantaleP said...

Yikes, and here I am complaining about my work schedule the last few weeks. Holy moly. I would not survive these hours! Grumpy is okay. It's not forever right? Hope you guys get some good rest soon. Looks like you really need it. As for your kid's answers to your questions about school? I get that too except replace the fine with "yuh". As in, 'had a good day?' answer: yuh. What'd you do? 'I don't r'member'. lol.

Ms. Zoe needs to eat a whole truckload of burgers!!

It's okay to let the inner grump come through once in a while - and it sounds like you have a lot of reasons to justify it! I can't believe the kind of hours your husband works - that is exhausting just to read!

Becca said...

aw I'm sorry things are a little grumpy lately . . . I wish I could give you a hug!!!

this post makes me love you even more...I've found a kindred spirit! Feel better soon okay?

I definitely have my grumpy days. Especially since my husband works all the time now, too. Just looking at those cookies makes me feel better though!

Something must be in the air. I'm feeling exactly how you describe in your post. Hope today was a little less grumpy and each day going forward is even better. :-)

Sue said...

I've been more grumpy than usual, too. And my hubby is gone similar hours.

I think that has a lot to do with my grouchiness...

=)

PS. Drag that man of yours to the doctor! Sounds like he needs an antibiotic.

But you have cookies!

Kaish is officially acting like a middle schooler. And Gary is officially acting like a man. But along with cookies, you have a picture of cutie baby.

For real, the "I'm too cool" middle school thing is normal. And sucky.

sorry you are grumpy. but, if you feel grumpy, be grumpy...no reason to squash it, it'll just come back! and rachel zoe??? seriously...I'd rather be my weight than have her body image issues.

I love you! Even if I only know you through your blog and encouraging comments, I know I love you! And, so does Jesus! Grumpy is okay...it happens to all of us. It will let you be grateful when the joy returns. Hang in there, Becky! Breakfast for dinner always and Elvis always put a smile on my face. :) xo

I love your cookie photos. I wish I could be that inspired when I am grumpy.

I've been feeling that way. My friends say it is menopause - LOL! and, Middle-School conversation is a bit like word famine isn't it. My youngest is now a tween - and I so miss having a little one who wraps their arms around you and says, "I love you" and means it - when the others either aren't talking and if they are, it isn't edifying.

Hope your grumps go away!

Mom Taxi Julie said...

That's al ot of hours! I'd be grumpy too. It's hard when they are gone that long (on everyone)

Maria said...

I love this post!! Not that being grumpy is any fun but it is allowed. Gary's hours looked killer~no wonder he's sick. Kids~'specially boys~either they won't shut up or you can't get a word out of them. Frustrating! Anyway, your pictures are stunning...Love the little tractor/bike...my nephew would love it! Have a happy rest of the week..two more days till the weekend. Oh & by the way...I love Rachel Zoe but she is clueless as to what a real arm or leg or waist, for that matter, really look like. She lives in her own little anorexic bubble but she's entertaining..lol.

Dina @ 4 Lettre Words said...

You always get the grump out of this tired body, my friend! LOVE that drinking-and-driving tractor shot. :)

Aww, Kaish is such a middle schooler. I'm not looking forward to that day. actually, after listening to Emma yap yap yap alllll day, maybe I am? LOL

And I'm sorry for Gary. What in the world is up with those hours!??? Awful!!

But the pictures made me smile ... I hope these comments are making you smile. xo

Cheer up Charlie. :) Tori started youth group and all she tells me about it is the dreaded "fine". I have officially reached that stage where other people know more about my daughter than me. *sigh*
