It takes energy and networking to find plenty to do for free with kids especially to fill the many days during the summer. The state we lived in when my kids were young had year round school so there were a few weeks off and then school all year long. The kids liked it very much.
If you bring them homemade brownies, they are ESPECIALLY nice! :<) Free IS hard, and summers can be looooong, can't they? gas is expensive, so even if something is "free", if it's very far away then it costs a lot to get there. One fun thing... call around to the appliance stores and see if you can get a refrigerator box. Let the kids make a spaceship or paint a "house"...
Wow, that is fun! There are SO many places to explore. A friend and I took our kids downtown on farmer's market day and gave them a bingo board of things to spot. We got all kinds of samples. Very fun.
Great idea! I agree, to find free things does take energy and networking. I'm actually taking my daughter to a jump house place called Pump it Up today. It's not free but $7 for kids and adults are free is prety cheap!!
Oh really?!?! I'll have to borrow a child so I can go visit the firehouse and maybe see a few cute firemen. :) Seriously though, I think they enjoy the visits too. Our local station comes to visit our school a couple of times a year, and I think they have just as much fun as the kids do.
yes, i take kids there all the time...and they are really nice and show them all around the trucks...good people firefighters...
Aw, my husband is a firefighter, and I think they have visitors all the time :) They enjoy it!And yes, free is hard to come by these days :)
You are always in the know, Becky! Love that idea! BTW- noticing more little updates popping up on your blog, like the slideshow at the bottom...so cute! Love what your friend did with the place! It's fun and festive and soooooo YOU!!!
Great idea. We are always looking for things in the local community newspaper to go see / do - but yes - FREE is rare anymore. My kids are still satisfied by sitting on the rides in the mall (that don't move... shhhh.. don't tell them they move if you put $$ in them.) We actually leave if someone comes up with older kids and cash ;-) ps. I also love the new blog look. How are you diggin' it? Kristen www.alittlesomethingforme.com
Been missin' you! The boys love to go to the firestation. Can you believe that summer is almost over???
So fun....I told my 17 year old today come up with something to do for free...we ate popcorn and played cards! I bet I can talk her into a firehouse tour...love a man in uniform!
I think our firehouses do that too (here in NC) and I think I heard (after mine was too old for it to be cool) that if you give them enough notice they will bring a fire truck to a birthday party .... as long as duty doesn't call.
I will have to teach Jane the song. The fire stations in Philly are too far from me :).
Andrea shared your new look with me earlier but it's awesome to see the new look with your posts added as well! What an awesome new space you have here on the 'net. :)-Angiehttp://thearthurclan.com
We love our local firehouses. Firefighters are true heroes.
That is a great idea. Thanks for sharing! What a great toy fire truck that is.
This sure brings back memories. We always made treks to the stations when my boys were small. When the granddaughters were little Hubby and I were chaperones for their field trips and we again made treks there. Good memories. We were always looking for fun Free stuff to do.
Cute. My Mom used to take the kids to the firestation for tours all the time. :)
Are you sure you don't want to take trips like this for you?Yeah, I thought so...
Wow first time I'm seeing the new website. It looks amazing!!
Love your new 'look' Becky!Yes I knew about the 'tours' for free. It's been a while since I've visited with a child....gives me an idea! Thanks.Oh yeah I know what you mean about gyms....you would have loved 'ours'!!
Cool man....wouldn't that be a hoot, hoot, honk, honk to go on a fire engine or even down the pole! Love your new layout and the Normal day~~~~pic montage below!
For real? I had no idea! That's a great way to do something different with the kids!
We've done that!Love the new look, Lady.
That's a good idea. Might take my girlfriend's little boogers there sometime.+followed
Never done it. Is that bad? I've got 2 weeks of summer left...maybe I'll drag Pumpkin with me so she can meet a cute boy!!
I didn't know that about fire stations! That would have been cool to know when my baby was small. He would have loved that. Thanks for sharing the info! Great photo and song!
Great free idea! My son just got a fire truck this past week, I'll have to teach him the song:)
Awesome!!! Love the pic. Great idea a free tour.. maybe that's what we will do next month for our Sibling Club adventure!!
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog! A trip to the fire department sounds like fun!Blessings!Dianewww.mylifeingodsgarden.com
I did know that! My boys have been to the fire station for a tour before. It was great fun and they loved it.
Hmmm, I don't know if our fire stations here do that. I know they bring the shiny red trucks (and their other vehicles - bikes, etc.) out to schools and fairs and the kids could check them out and the firefighters are around for photo ops and to answer questions... but it would be so cool if the kids could visit the stations and slide down that pole! =)
I wished the firefighters in Sweden did that, but no such luck. Love the pic! :-)
What a great post!!! Every sentence rings true.. What a terrific post...
that is a great idea but i do not think we have them here for visits.
Becky! It's so nice to be back, I love your new layout! I didn't know about fire stations tours, I wonder if they do that here in my town, I'll find out, that's a great idea, Ramsay and I still have 2 weeks of vacation left and nothing much to do. Hope all your family is enjoying the break. =D
