'I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.' Vincent Van Gogh

How did we end up
at the Country Fair
on a Wednesday night you might wonder?
Well, here's the long story.

I was driving home from Philly after a long and hot day.
92 degrees with humidity (in case you wondered)
The phone rings.
Jonathon wants to know if we can go to the Fair.

I assumed it would be on the weekend.
Friday night perhaps.
Or Saturday.
'Of course we can go.'

So, at 5:30 I walk in.
Tired and hot and maybe a tad bit grumpy ; )

The boys jump up and tell me we have to leave
right.this.second.
WHAT?

It turns out, ALL of their friends are going tonight.
Wednesday.
6-10 pm.

And there is a special...
For just $16 you can get a band and ride every ride.
That sounded like a fantastic deal to them.
I tried to talk them out of it.
It didn't work.

So off we go.
They had the best time with their friends.

They might (or might not have)
asked me to please walk far behind them.
They might (or might not have)
told me not to embarrass them in front of their friends.
They might (or might not have)
used up insane amounts of money to win
a stupid plastic frame with a picture of Eminem...

At the end of the night we went back to get our car..
and we had parked at a hardware store
with gates.
Gates that were closed!

 We couldn't go home.
I called my brother Johnny.
He told me I wasn't very bright to park in a lot like that.
I concurred.

Betsy and Levi were at his house so they came to rescue us.

And we all lived happily ever after.

Last year we were with Juan and Shoshi at the fair.
We really miss those boys : (

By the way, I can't get this post to center correctly for the life of me.
I have to say, I am not a 100% in love with the Mac yet.
All of you told me that it was the best thing since sliced bread....
I miss Windows Live Writer for blogging with a passion.
And we all know that blogging is the most important thing I do on a computer ; )

Looks like a fun time! I think the parking is my favorite part, haha... those types of things make me laugh even when they happen to me :) Sorry about not loving the Mac, I do love mine... but I've never tried Windows Live Writer. Have a blessed weekend!

Oh, I think I would have completely panicked if I got to the car and it was locked in like that. I'm so glad you had people to call. It's so nice to have people isn't it? :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the county fair! How fun is that?

But no fun to have your car locked up... totally sounds like something that would happen to me :)

Excuse me while I go search the pantry for caramel to dump over an apple! :)

What a great story -- I really enjoyed it, with the pictures.

The weather here is not helping. I really wish there would be humidity or at least get above 70 degrees...no county fairs for us..and I'm dying to eat one of those chocolate/caramel apples! (either way they both look so tasty)

Really great pics! You really captured the fun parts of the fair (at least what the boys considered fun, I'm sure :)) I would have had a hard time going after a long day at work - you are a good mom. Way good.

That is so fabulous. These pictures are MAGNIFICENT. Everything is centered. Perfectly. And the story to boot! Beauty and laughter, all at once.

you are such a softy. a softy with a big, huge heart. I'm sorry 'bout the gates. Glad you were rescued.

oh, and I think there's a cheapie piece of software you can buy that will allow window-based programs to work on a mac.

Man...and you lived to tell the tale!

As for the Mac, I used to hate it but now I love it. It only took me a year. Hopefully it won't take you that long...

I know it's coming...that day when he'll not want to be in my line of vision. The day when he'll be embarrassed by me. There's nothing that will prepare me for it. But thank you for writing about it because now I'll be comforted knowing that I'm not alone.

The pictures are great! The story is great! Well...except the car trapped in lot part...that sounds like something that would happen to us. And don't you go and talk about the Mac like that! It IS the best thing since sliced bread! Have a great Sunday!!!!!!!!

Oh I love the Fair! Well, I love the food.

Tell Kaishon that Grandma J said it's summer time, time to get crazy at the pool....time for a haircut! :)

It sounds like you had a great time, even though it was probably the very last thing you felt like doing.
I love your photos. I lingered on the funnel cake way too long, and then the next one with the girl reading at the foot of the Tornado ride...wow! What great juxtaposition!

Looks great. You will come to love your Mac but it does take some time to get used to. :)

Have I told you before that you are way too nice? ;)

I'm a double commenter today because I read this post and wanted to respond.
I love that you took them anyway even when you did not feel like it. It will probably rank up there with the best of memories and you gave it to them :).
I'm sorry about the car episode but you taught a lesson without even thinking of it and that is: It is important to have support people as backups and that love you enough to come help.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks for your recent visit and I'm so looking for a daughter-in-law for my non married son. LOL. I'm also a great grandmother. :)

What a fun post on this holiday weekend! I love these pictures. And those food shots...I'm off in search of a snack now. Only what ever I come up with in my kitchen won't be nearly as yummy as a candy apple or a sno-cone or that perennial favorite, fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar!!

Way to go with the spontaneity! Great mom and fantastic memories.

The only thing I like about fairs is the food. If I could live on carmel apples and funnel cakes I'd live at the fair. lol
Well, I guess I do like the bright colors and the sounds.
It's just that fairs are a killer on the wallet.

fun, fun! and those caramel apples? they look divine!

I can't stand those fairs. Mostly, it's just the ripoff aspect of it, though I may or may not have puked on a Scrambler, once.

Loved the screen across the caramel apples shot.

Your story was wonderful. LOL! Oh my. Well, you definitely earned Momma of the year points that night. And what wonderful memories... and OMG AMAZING PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!! I can't pick a favorite by a long shot. They are all simply incredible.

Funnel cake. Yum.

Ahhhh. Fairs. Carnival rides. You are indeed flexible to go on a Wednesday night. Glad you shared it this us.

I love the apple photos and OMG funnel cake. I haven't had funnel cake in forever. Yumm.

Casey Freeland said...

Wait, what about your car? Wrongly imprisoned when all it really wanted to do was please its owner. Oh, the inhumanity! Poor thing.

I am often the last to agree to go somewhere or do something. But I almost always love it once I get there.

Cheers,

Casey

Great pics as always. I really like the one where you can see the ride moving and the people are sharp. Very cool.

You have so many comments already, you may not even notice my little one - - - but I'm leaving it ANYWAY!

For 12 years we lived in a small Indiana Town which had a week long Street Fair every September - - - school even closed EARLY on the "family bracelet night" there. The whole town, and half the state, came.

I ignored the rides, but "grazed" on all the food.

Aunt Snow said...

What fun!! And it became even more of an adventure. How did you end up home, after all?

Sonya said...

Oh how I miss American fairs..it's amazing what you miss sometimes when you aren't around the stuff you take for granted. Im glad you went :) not glad about the car being behind a gate..but that you went and had fun. That food looks amazing!!

Maddy said...

That last photo is the coolest!

The fair just pulled into my town too! I go for the food these days...the food I shouldn't be eating in the first place :) But definitely worth it!

And hang in there with the Mac. It's a bit of a learning curve, but so worth it!
