Shooting {Perfect} Pictures

Sometimes pictures aren't perfect.

Sometimes people blink.
Sometimes babies scream.

Sometimes it is windy or rainy or cold.
Teeth are chattering.
Eyes are squinting.
People have had enough.

Maybe your editing software stinks.

Maybe your camera only goes up to 1200 ISO.
Maybe you don't even have a camera that lets you control ISO.

None of that matters.

NONE.

If you captured love,
well, then,
 your pictures are perfect.
Capture love and you will always win.

Becky, you have such a nice way of telling a story with pictures and words. This one has a perfect message.

It isn't the camera. It's the images you capture with it.

Moments in life are often best captured when 'not quite perfect' if you know what I mean.

Wanda said...

...and that's why you are perfect. Because you always capture the love. These shots are fantastic, everyone.

Love them!

Geez. I'm sitting here all choked up. You're exactly right.

I'm trying to get a friend to fly in to take family pictures. Not those formal ones (because THOSE lovely 80's Olan Mills ones were the last ones the family had taken), but the candid interacting "I love you" moments between generations.

Mom has terminal cancer. We're two weeks into this fight and I'm realizing that my favorite photos of her aren't the studio ones... they're the ones with my dinky point-and-shoot where Mom was smashing a blown egg on Dad's head at Easter. Or Dad laid his hand on Mom's shoulder, just as he always does. Or they laughed while sneaking a kiss. 80 years old and they still just leak love.

I want to capture it too. Thank you for posting this... thank you.

Excellent post!!!! I love every single one of these photos, because they are REAL :D

I recently did a wedding for the first time and I was so worried about the full sunny day and everyone squinting into the camera and all the sun haze but the bride said they were amazing because I captured the day exactly how it was :) (boy was I relieved though!)

I always say, "It's the journey you're on...not the getting there that matters." These pictures say just that! I love all the 'ups and downs' you were able to capture...that's all part of being a family, isn't it? You simply learn to roll with the punches and keep truckin' right along! These pictures are PRICELESS...definiitely lots of L-O-V-E going around!

Freckles & Dimples Photography said...

right on! I am editing some photos that I messed up the focus on and I actually looooove them because the parents are so happy and having such fun with their son. Although, I do need to figure out what happened with my focus...
when I post them, i'm thinking I'll link back to this post :)
Have a great day, girl!

oh Becky, this is such an inspiring post, and that little boy in yellow is so cute! Becky our PK still going to be full day but our PK teachers won't have assitants anymore, so the assistants will lose their job =/
I think half day PK would be good too but in our district they went with the second option instead, which was to terminate thousands of assistants. I feel bad for them because it's so hard to get a job these days. =(

I just love you. Your the best encourager. I have a vague idea about ISO. My camera is a simple digital. I don't edit anything. I just shoot and shoot and shoot. I don't know what your voice sounds like and still I hear you in my head, you say, "point and shoot then reshoot and keep taking pictures." It makes me happy. One day when I get the money I am going to buy a good camera and then I'm going to learn more. Until then I'm going to point and shoot and keep up the joy of doing it.
and lots of thanks to you for posts like this.
