The business of Photography?

Such a great post at I Heart Faces today.

As I have wandered into this photography world I have noticed that many people get a big camera and they maybe go to a workshop or a class

and then *badda badda bing*

they start a business.pretty 26

Just like that.

People like their pictures. People ask them to shoot them. They say yes. People want to pay them. They think “I should start a business.”

And many of them do.pretty 23

It is interesting to watch.

Fascinating.

Maybe they shouldn’t. pretty 20

Or maybe they should?pretty 19

Who knows. I do know this is a great post to read about it.

Definitely pop over if you are thinking about starting something!

Also, if you have some free time today check out

CreativeLIVE

There is a free workshop with Jeremy Cowart.

Truly fascinating stuff.

I like this guy. I never heard of him before.pretty 31

I might or might not live under a rock.

All I know for sure is (weather under a rock or not,)pretty 30

our house is filled with love and happiness

because there is Kaish.

Always Kaish.pretty 29

Wishing you a joyful weekend.

Oh, and if you didn’t get to leave

sweet Mindy a comment yet,

I would love if you would.photstoryfriday And one last P.S.

Guess who wrote on Kaishon’s facebook page and said they would be here on January 31?

The one and only Shoshmeister!

We can’t stop smiling…

I read the article too. Very good points and so true! I know many people who have, just like you said, bought a nice camera and then automatically become a "photographer". It's really kind of funny!

I heard about Help Portrait last year from another blogger and I was so excited to find a Buffalo group and emailed to see if I could volunteer. Not take pictures but just be apart of making a difference. I was really disappointed they said if you didn't help last year you couldn't this year.....okay! I hope maybe next year.....it's a great idea and as you know a picture creates more smiles all around. Love that Shosh is coming for a visit....can't wait to see more pictures of that gorgeous smile.

I should go read that article. Since I got my "big camera" I have been taking my own kids pictures and been very pleased with them. But I also would like to take a class because I am definitely not a pro!

Jasmine Star mentioned this live webcast on Twitter yesterday and it's on my "to-do" list for the weekend, along with getting my Christmas tree up and running!

I'm so happy Shoshi is coming back! I know how much Kaish and you love him! When are we going to be meeting again, Miss Becky!? I don't mind taking a day trip to visit my girl! Maybe after the holidays sometime?? Let me know!

Ooh - I have a big camera, I should start a business!

Except nobody asks me to shoot them.

And I'm really lazy.

And not very good at photography.

So maybe not.

no plans to start a business...photographing people for money scares the crap out of me. but so does most things so who knows:)

I haven't taken a workshop yet. Would seriously love too however, I tend to resort to landscape photos more. I just feel at ease with nature :o)

Your pictures of Kaishon always make my day - he has so much personality. Great post too...that business question has been in my mind a ton. I don't really want a portrait business but it can be tempting.

Ohhh, good article, thanks!! I know what you mean... there are lots of photographers popping up, myself included I guess, haha. It's true though, it's a big decision! And I'm just on the outskirts of it myself. And Jeremy Cowart is great.

Boils down to whether or not they love doing it. I firmly believe that if a person does something artistic just for money, there is no art in it.

I love the pic of the boy and his dad(?) with the odd looks on their faces. Hilarious.

Cheers,

Casey

Oh, oh... I missed this post! Yes, the business thing is very, very perplexing. I've made several of those same faces lately. I think I do not like the business thing. But I DO love, very very much, that Shoshi will be visiting soon! Hurray....

Big hugs, I miss ya.

I absolutely dig Kaishon... he reminds me of my peace corps playmates when I was young. I think you'd be a great professional photographer. I'd pay zillions to have you shoot us... okay maybe not zillions, my checkbook is a bit empty but definitely some hugs and dinner!
