lingering childhood

You were six months old and full of fun.
With a blink of my eye, you suddenly were one.
There were so many things we were going to do,
But I turned my head and you turned two.

smile1At two, you were very dependent on me.
But independence took over when you turned three.
Your third birthday, another year I tried to ignore.smileBut when I lit the candles, there weren't three, but four.
Four was the year that you really strived.
Why, look at you now, you're already five.
Now you are ready for books and rules.smile2

This is the year that you go to school.
The big day came; you were anxious to go.
We walked to the bus, going oh so slow.

smile5As you climbed aboard and waved goodbye,
I felt a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes.
Time goes so fast, it's hard to believe
That just yesterday you were home here, with me.smile4And tomorrow when the bus brings you home
and you jump to the ground,
You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.smile3So I'm holding on to these moments as hard as I can.
Because the next time I look,
I'll be seeing a grown man

Oh how true, it seems every time you turn around they are a year older and before you know it they are parents with their own babies.

*sigh* They do grow up way too fast for my liking. My husband was always tells me, "I wish J & Z could stay this way (little and cuddly and loving snuggles) for a little bit longer..."

Oh my....this was so precious. Loving all those dear children, who are growing up so fast. Tomorrow my son will be 45....Oh dear...it seems like he was a little blond boy in my arms.

I am torn between the beauty of your photos and the stark reality of your words. Days fly by as if they were hours; my boy is growing up so quickly. At ten, he thinks he's a man, while I still want to see a child. May God grant both you and me the patience, perservence, and peace to sustain us on this all too swift journey. Love you, dear friend... I'm glad you're walking this path with me!

I have a little eight-month that's growing up so fast. Your post brought a tear to my eye and lump into my throat, just like the poem. Your photos completed the whole thing beautifully.

Thanks!

It's amazing how quickly hours turn to days which turn to weeks, months years. Wow, as a child you never realize how fast it all goes.
