Naji the Fisherman

Naji found an old fishing pole in my parent’s basement on the very first day of his visit over the summer.naji fishing 022

And every.single.day. after that day he begged me to take him fishing.

Every. Single. Day.naji fishing 025

Many times a day.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go fishing.naji fishing 026

I mean how wonderfully fun is it to put squiggly worms on a hook?

To-die-for-fun, right?naji fishing 023

We finally went towards the end of the summer.

Naji was so happy.naji fishing 031

He found a tackle box (also in my parents basement)

Do you know what was in the tackle box?

Makeup and jewelry from 1998.

Super classy stuff.photstoryfriday naji fishing 028

I must have read that putting makeup in a tackle box was a good idea when I was in college.

Naji thought that stuff was perfect for our fishing trip.naji fishing 029

So, we fished with Strawberry Lip Smackers and

assorted Jewels from Claire’s. naji fishing 027

A good time was had by all.naji fishing 024

I love these little boys.

Did you go fishing over the summer?

I haven't been fishing in many years. But I kept makeup and jewelry in a tackle box too!

Love the fishing pics! I love to fish. As long as I don't have to bait my own hook. Or touch any fish I might catch. :)

Worms and hooks are not in my vocabulary. I'm not a fisher.

Your little fishermen are too cute! :)

Summer or not we fish year round. My husband and son love it. I have found that the only way to get my son up before th sun with a smile on his face is for an early morning fishing trip. love the photos of your fishermen, I know my fellas would love to check out that fishing hole ;)

Love it! Those boys ARE super adorable :) And you are such a fun mom for taking them fishing, worms or not!!

there's just such an innocence wrapped around fishing. I can't think of anything I'd rather boys enjoy ...

(ok, ok ... *sometimes* I'd rather they curl up quietly in the corner of the couch and read ... like their mama!!!)

Nope, did not go fishing - but the peace of that lake and the fun those boys are having, hanging over the warf makes me want to.

Such great shots of summer fun. And what a good mama to fulfill that fantasy.

Wonderful pictures, as always.

I love how they used that old stuff for bait anyway. This might be the first year in a long time that I didn't go fishing.

Spectacular shots! Sometimes we fish and then throw them back into the lake...

Great fishing shots!

I don't fish, but I do love to take my book along while others fish.

Oh. Those are amazing. Especially the closeups of Kaish. wow. And I graduated college in 1982, with a tacklebox FULL of Lip Smackers and other assorted makeup goodness. I finally emptied that tacklebox sometime in the late '90's; I am pretty sure that none of the makeup was used for bait.
As for fishing, our fall break was three weeks ago, and it was spent in Destin, FL. Fishing. fishing. FISHING. FiShInG. fIsHiNg. From the dock. From the boat. At the beach. In the moat. (not really. but IF there had been a moat available, then yes).
And with a creek directly behind the house, an episode of fishing can break out at any time. The boy has used paperclips, string, and sticks, and he has managed to catch fish. SO... ummm... wait... what WAS the question here? I think I lost my way. Oh... wait.. MOST important... what GREAT pictures!

Are you sure that tacklebox wasn't a Kaboodle? Cuz I stumbled across one from my ballet company years that had an amazing assortment of brilliant and unwearable-in-public makeup. I'm hesitant to let Itty Bit go fishing with it ;)

Looks like the boys had a marvelous time! I would too - as long as there were no worms or fish to worry about!

Great shots!

I miss fishing quite a bit. That was one thing Boo and I shared together. Too bad you all don't live close by. I'd be there in a heartbeat and I'd even put the worm on the hook.

Im married to a fisherman. He has won 3 boats in bass tournaments and at one time made more fishing than he did coaching. If those boys lived around here I know someone that would take them ALL THE TIME!! No kidding he fishes at least 2 times a week and has tournaments every weekend, seems like to me anyway. Great pictures!

Tackle boxes can be used for so many things. I like when we use things and not think they are for one thing only.

Wow, what a beautiful fishing spot, and you captured the event sooo well! Gorgeous photos! And too funny about fishing with the make-up! No fishing for us this summer, but your post has inspired me to put it on the list for the next one.

Nope. Never made it fishing this year. Would have been nice to have had as much fun as those two obviously did.

It looks like the boys had so much fun fishing!:) Fantastic memories!:)

My motto is, I won't catch 'em or clean 'em, but I'll cook 'em and eat 'em.

Have seen a couple of nasty fish hook injuries--hooks scare me! Much to my kids' chagrin.

I think Kaishon was lovin' it almost as much as Naji. I know you miss him. :(

A few times when I was a little girl, but not very often! I would love to go again, preferably when I have a two boys of my own :)

I "go fishing" without a pole and hook, does that make sense? I mean, I do what fisherman do, enjoy the water, tool around in a kayak and explore nooks and crannies in the lake, bask in the sun... I just don't catch anything when I fish, and that is just fine with me. Great photos on your last posts!

I have not been fishing in years....but I love to eat them!!
Great photos of sweet boys!

i really enjoyed this post! i love the fishing pics and it looks so nice...like end of summer early fall... your son's hair is AWESOME and i hope he always wears it so cool. i used to fish with family friends in a man made pond and we caught a lot of catfish but i never ate it. i was afraid that they would have too many pollutants in them. what did the boys catch?

Wow...these pictures make me wish summer hadn't gone away! Nope...I didn't get the chance to go fishing this summer, but I do love it!

Used to fish (and crab) all the time in Long Island. But we moved upstate and then did not fish as much. However, your photos brought back childhood memories, so thank you!

I don't fish because I won't bait my own hook or take the fish off the line. I do eat them though!!!

Great pictures. Oh, and isn't the 'caboodle' just a glorified tackle box anyway?

Blessings to you!

I went fishing for the first time last summer. I was the novice on the boat, and my future father-in-law had gone out a few times already that summer, hooking nothing, so when I hooked this HUGE flounder, needless to say there was chaos on the boat, and the little bugger got away. Sigh.

I certainly did have as much fun as these two little men though!

Oh how fun! The boys look like they are having a blast. Love the tackle box full of makeup! LOL Come to think of it... we didn't get in any fishing this summer. Not that I actually 'fish', but my husband does! :)

I'm glad you took the boys fishing... My grandpa used to take my fishing, in Minnesota, as a little girl... and I have WONDERFUL memories of it! Sometimes it's the little bitty things that we adults would rather NOT do, that the kids just LOVE and remember their whole lives!

I think you son is the most photographed little boy in this blogging community! Does he pose for you upon command orr do you have to catch him off guard? I love your photos... and no I didn't go fishing this summer.... in fact I have never gone in my entire life... :(

Great fish tale! The photos were super as well. So did ya catch a lot with your 12 yr old make-up? no fishing here this summer thought about it a few times!

I had to chuckle about the tackle box being full of makeup and jewelry. That would've happened here if anyone had ever bought either my sisters or I a tackle box!

Loving your photo stories! The visual story of the boys on the dock says it all. PERFECT day of summer. Friends. Adventure even if all was taking place on a 12' x 6' dock. Looking forward to more.
