Tuesday was their last day.

They did not want their pictures taken.

Look how much they grew.

Do you make marks anywhere in your house to document growth?

I was just thinking today that a good Mom would do that.

I don’t.

One thing I know though,

even without marks on the wall,

time flies.

‘Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.’

We just finished 4th grade too. Except it was back at the end of May, and I'm already wishing it was time to start 5th grade!

My daughter just finished 4th grade too! I took a photo at the bus stop on day one but not on the last day. :( We drove her in anyway..too many things to carry in.
Your guys grew so much! Did they plan to wear similar shirts on the last day or was that just a coincidence, it sure makes for a great photo!!

Yes, time flies and apparently not only do boys grow UP fast...their hair grows FAST too. :)
Such cute photos.
I am surprised how late they got out of school...seems my girls have been out for weeks. Ok, they have been out for weeks.
So, did Kaish get a job for the summer???? :)

Life with Kaishon said...

I laughed my head off about them planning to match : ) No, they did not plan that. Isn't it funny though. Kaishon and Shoshi could care less about clothes. Now Jonathon is very fashion forward : ) but even he doesn't tell them how to match : )

Happy Summer to you!!! It looks like Kaishon and the boys were happy to end the school year and start their summer of fun!!!

they are so sweet..... I love the blue chuck t's!!

Can't wait to see you in a few weeks:)

End-of-school is always a happy-sad kind of affair, esp. if a good friend is going away. :(

How cute that all three of them are wearing striped shirts in the last pic! It almost looks like they just picked different colors of the same shirt! :)

Look how much they've grown!

And, their matching shirts? Love it!

time goes so fast. I just went to my best friends little girls 6th birthday party. It seems like yesterday she was just turning 1.

OMG... they really have grown a lot in one school year. Scary isn't it? Hope you have lots of fun activities planned for the summer. Enjoy!

Sarah said...

Oh my gosh! I can't believe how much younger they look at the beginning of the school year! And I love that last picture -- did they plan to all wear striped shirts??

P.S. You are a good mom, even if you don't put marks on the wall :)

Yes they have grown this year, and the blue high top sneakers weren't on his feet on the last day.

We did the wall thing tonight, actually. My 8 year old son has grown 2 1/2 inches in the last six months. My 10 year old daughter is now exactly the same height as my wife. It was an important measuring day for both of them.

I love how they all wore striped shirts. Was that planned? They all definitely grew. Can you imagine what next year's last day of school is going to look like?

May said...

Yes, they have grown way big and look like little men!!:D Isn't it exciting to go to the next grade and learn something new??I too have plenty of marks on our walls monitoring both my son's & daughter's growth :-)

parentingBYdummies said...

I mark their growth. When I remember. Which is sporadically. Which is sad b/c we have a beautiful growth chart painted onto their wall! Think I'll mark them today. Thanks for the idea!

vlpphotography said...

I don't have children yet. But I do remember my parents marking my growth with a marker on one of the kitchen walls. I always wanted to be taller than my older brother, but alas, I couldn't. I got stuck at 1.59mts, hehe.

I have to agree with someone above: I want a pair of shoes like those!!

Ps: If you give Adobe Lightroom a try, you'll find lovely presets to make gorgeous effects for your pics. I really like them. :)
Have a nice today!!

Those pictures are awesome. I had a lump in my throat. I used to teach school, my last assignment was fifth and sixth grade. And I used to miss my kids, too, even if summer vacation was calling.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for the lovely comment.
You have a beautiful family and a great blog. I love your photos. I also love that the fellas were wearing the same shirt different colors and those blue Converse are classic. I wish all kids had a couple of good friends like these seem to be.

Your son is growing up!!!! Bella has been out of school for over a month. I hope you all have the bestest best summer! HUGS!

Linda www.mykindofcooking.com said...

When my son was growing up we would make marks on the trim around the door in his bedroom. When we moved, we took the trim with us.

Brooke said...

love the matching shirts :) schools been out for weeks here!

my parents use to write on the door frame every year - the marks are still there from when i was a baby.

awww, Becky -
time sure does fly, doesn't it?!? (which I try to remind myself when some days seem to drag!! oh, the irony!)
I love the now and then-ness of these images...

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
I have looked through yours too and really love your photos!
Also, my daughter just finished the 4th grade too. I'm pretty good at getting those first day of school shots but have fallen off the wagon on the last day shots. Next year I will have to get the last day as she will be leaving her elementary for middle school.
I have booked marked your blog and you have prompted me to update!

Have a great week!

What beautiful moments you've captured there... I think photos tell the story much better than marking the wall would :) Thanks for stopping by my blog ~ I look forward to sharing more Sundays In My City!

great idea doing the before and after 4th grade pics, what a difference a year makes!!!! great Dewey quote

MommyNamedApril said...

lovely pictures (as always!)

i don't make marks because it would KILL me to paint over them or leave them if we ever decided to move. plus, i think they're a little depressing. i don't want a daily reminder that my babies are getting bigger and more independent.

MommyNamedApril said...

p.s. your linky makes me wish i wrote a decent post today ;-)

How cute are they in their striped shirts!!! Your school bus looks amazing! Its huge!!!

Muthering Heights said...

They look adorable in their coordinating shirts!

Wow...fifth graders now! That sounds so grown up!

DD said...

First off, I love Kaishon's hair now!! How cool is he! How cool of a mom that you let it grow out like that! HE is so handsome!

Second, I am one of those mom's...we have a growth chart markings on the outside of Annie's door. The only problem is what do we do then we move some day? Not a real good place to mark I guess!

patty said...

sweet shots, and great idea to document the year this way. we don't do the lines, tho i wish we could have... we moved a lot until we got here... i love the idea of your communal global blog!

I loved this! How smart to take a pic at the beginning of the year and one at the END! They really DID grow so much!

Joanna Jenkins said...

Yeah! Summer vacation is finally here! The guys are getting so big... and handsome.

I have marks on my pantry door for Godson and the two grandkids. It makes me smile every time I see it. Of course the grandkids have out grown the door but Godson has a few more years to go before he does.

Man, what a difference!!!

You don't need marks on the wall. You have great pictures to show it.

Why do kids grow so fast? Gracious!

Awe, these kind of subjects make me sigh as a mom. It's hard watching them grow up. I know you treasure every stage. ; )

Your pics are awesome and you totally made my day by your comment.

Thanks, Becky!

oh my gosh! I have marks on the inside of my closet door. I actually took a thin piece of paper and taped up it the door frame, that way if we ever move I can take the paper with me. I always mark off the boys height on Jan 1st, their birthday, the first day of school and the last day of school.

Mighty M said...

I don't do the marks either, like many things I just forget.

Hilary said...

Too sweet. Those blue sneakers are very cool!

Nessa said...

i saw those sneaks in your header pictures. They are stunning and the boys look like candy in the last picture.

a chris said...

Gorgeous pics. The boys may not have wanted to pose but when they're older and understand just how fast things change they may really enjoy them.

Thanks for reminding me I need to tape some paper up on the wall. Our girl has been walking for months but I've just forgotten to measure her!

What a sweet post and I love the matching shirts. Did the boys plan that?

jlo said...

They sure have grown...especially Kaishon's hair! :) Glad you guys are finally done!

Liz said...

Congrats to them! I hope they have a fun summer!

Lisa said...

Oh my favorite bloggy boys!!!

Pretty soon they will be taller then you!

When I have to "be the boss" I make my sons sit down. I am 5'9 and my little boys tower over me...they are 6'3 and 6'4.5...My 13 year old daughter is now 5'8Yicks!!....THANK GOD I have Lizzy...who will be 4 years old July 7th...can you believe it???

Yes, we have a place in the house to mark their growth.

Start doing it...it is fun...the boys love it:) ((and then you too can be a good mom like me:) }} I can't reach the top of the boys heads anymore so Mark ((my husband)) does all the marking these days.

Does that still make me a good mom? MMMM if the answer is no....don't tell me! It will just crush me!!!!

Hugs!!!

This is a great idea. I'll try to remember to link up on Tuesday.

Oh, yeah. And apparently, his hair grew, too!HAHA The before and after picks are important and equal in value to the marks on the wall (which yes, incidentally, I have :)
Beautiful stuff!
