pride?

or Why you never, ever have to worry about me becoming a conceited, stuck up photographer

my kid:

Kaishon begs and pleads for the school picture.

Every Fall and every Spring

“Oh, please, please, please Mom? wednesday

It looks so much better than anything you take.

I can pick the background color.

Everyone gets them.

I want to be coolwednesday 7 editedThat photographer is real.

You aren’t real Mom”

jacob new 2         my Daddy:

“Daddy, did you like the picture of you and Brooke that I put on the blog?”

no answer wednesday 8 “Daddy, what did you think?”

no answer

“Daddy, I loved your shirt in it. That is a good color for you.

You both looked perfect that day. Did you like it?”

no answer

“Daddy!”

“Oh. Um. Well. I don’t really look at the blog.

I don’t know what it is.”wednesday 9

“Daddy, remember when I set up your computer to go right

to it every time you got on the internet so you could see it?

You guys always told me you couldn’t find it, remember?

I fixed that for you!”

“Well, your Mother and I decided we wanted to open the internet to our email because that is the only way we can get in our email.

Johnny changed it for us.

We don’t go anywhere except for there and facebook.

Did I tell you I have 150 friends now?”

jacob new

my brother:

Ring a ling a ling

‘Hi Johnny. It’s Becky.

When can I come and take some pictures of new baby Jacob?’wednesday 5

“Don’t worry about. We are going to Wallmart for a picture package.”

‘Johnny, that is silly. I am free and I will take better pictures.”wednesday 2

“Do you have a stream and sky background?”

‘Well, no, but we can go to a real stream’

“That’s ok Becky, we like the stream background at wallmart.”

“Wait, I will try to get a background like that. OK?”johnny “Johnny…Johnny! Are you still there?”

(he hung up the phone)

wednesday 1

No sir-ee! You don’t have to ever worry about me getting a big head.wednesday 3

Now, on the other hand, you might want to worry about me getting a big(ger) tummy as I am drowning all of my sorrows out with ice cream…

*This post written in jest. My family is supportive.

{Well, except for the school picture package lover,

the brother that is dedicated to Walmart sky and stream background

and the father that has 151 friends on facebook…

except for those three I am 100% supported}black and white wednesdaysevenclownbutton ABC wEDNESDAY

Dude. I'd totally keep you busy taking pictures of my kids if you lived near me! And if you could convince my kid to smile for a school portrait, I'd pay cold hard cash.

If you want to come to Michigan, I would love some family pictures done! You know I LOVE your work!

Mighty M said...

Haha! I want to get AWAY from those types of backgrounds. Not go towards them!!!

Baby in a tie = awesome. :D

Love the first pic, and the one of your dad, too.

I'd prefer your photography skillz over Wal-Mart's stream background anyday! :D

Marilyn said...

You are funny! Flat out funny! I love your blog and don't believe a work that you just wrote......well, except for the school picture thing.

amy said...

gotta love family :) they are the most supportive but they have to keep you in check.

very fun pictures- love the one of your dad - such a cute grandpa.

photowannabe said...

Love, love, love your pictures and if you were closer I would have you as my personal photographer.
Sorry, but your Daddy just doesn't know what he is missing.
You know, sometimes those closest to us don't realize that photography is such an extension of ourselves...our character and personality.
All that to say its a good pride you have in your work and others keep you humble about it. (:0)

ohmygoodnessilovethebabypictureswiththetieon!!! Can you read that? It's me saying, "Oh my goodness! I love the baby pictures with the tie on!!" I have got to find a baby boy right now so I can copy you! Too stinkin' cute. And I think you are way better than the school photographers and certainly the Wal-mart photogs!! :) p.s. what flavor ice cream? Maybe I should join you! :)

Secret Mom Thoughts said...

You are a wonderful photographer. Way better than Walmart.

The Incredible Woody said...

LOL! Sounds like my family. They are totally supportive except for the fact that they run when they see my camera and never look at my blog:)

But I'm thinking the whole 'not looking at the blog' thing is a bonus. It means I can talk about them to the whole world!!!!!

Skeller said...

oh Becky!! you may have to start a serious diet after eating so many HUGE slices of humble pie. ;-)

and, oh yeah - you're WAY BETTER than Walmart!!!! Those pics of Jacob in the tie - hilarious and wonderful!!

Mom24 said...

LOL LOVE this! I'd love for you to take my kids school pictures.

April said...

Girl...don't take nuttin' off of nobody!:):) I agree with everyone else here...you are a FABULOUS photographer and I'd choose you hands down!

Michelle said...

LOL! My goodness, that was so funny. Have you started checking ebay for fake stream backgrounds yet? :)

lifebythecreek said...

First, I love ALL of the pics you posted, but the baby with the tie rocks the house!! Second... girl, my mom won't even GET a computer and therefore will most likely never even SEE my blog (which actually affords me a host of journalistic freedom that I kind of like!). Do you have your blog linked in to Facebook? If so, your posts will show up there, and if you've friended your dad, at least he'll see them. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have. And finally, I suppose I'd have to call you a prophetographer, because you certainly seem to fit Mark 6:4:

Then Jesus told them, "A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family."

See... you didn't realize that you were actually mentioned in the New Testament, did you? Don't worry, sweet one... God has a plan for you, and if you let Him, He'll use your talents in wonderful ways. Actually... He already is....

brainella said...

LOL. Sweetie, we will be right over and you can take ALL the pictures you want. It's really not that long a drive from Atlanta...right? :)

Always fun to visit you! Fun, fantastic post and photos as always! Have a great week! Hugs to you all!

You take such better pictures than a typical school picture. Oh well. These are great. Love the tie on the baby!

Angela said...

What a sweet post.
I get... "Oh Angela does photography as a hobby"
Hobby? I am growing to hate that word.
Your photos are always beautiful - and I never let my kid have a school photo done! The one and only time I did I ordered the whole package of like 150 million photos in all different sizes and I get them and he had chocolate yoghurt on his face!! Never again. Chocolate yoghurt and fake sunset picture (sunset??? They are in their school uniform - you dont got to school at sunset!!)

gretchen said...

cute. I hate the school pictures and buy the smallest package I can just so they get a class photo.

Matty said...

You're pictures are great. How funny that he insists on Walmart.

Justine said...

Heeeheeheeeeeeeeeee! Okay, this completely cracked me up, because I could just envision those conversations happening. I can't believe your bro would want a cheesy Walmart background rather than nature and YOUR photo skills. Geez, I'd let you take pictures of my kids ANY time.

Justine :o )

Hope you have a wonderful week~

I would LOVE for you to take our family photos...no stream needed.

ps. Your Dad has more friends than me. He is soooo popular!

Tumblewords: said...

Laughing! Laughing! Who needs a background when you take such wonderful frontgrounds? :)

Hilary said...

Awww.. nobody would choose Walmart over you, would they? Nah! Couldn't be. This series of photos are just wonderful. I love the borrowed green tie shots especially. So adorable.

I have a solution for your Dad. Let him keep the email page as his home page but you have to send him an email with the link to your current page every time you post. Then he'll just click on it from his emailer.

Anita Johnson said...

I love your photos. Let's see, a slice of real life with a real background or someone's fake stream. Decisions, decisions. :-)

Wonderful post, - I enjoyed it so much.

Wanda said...

Ah family. Never a prophet in your own town.

It takes your "extended" family to tell you just how great a photographer you are.

Happy Wednesday.

And here I thought from the title this was going to be all about a gay pride parade.

oh my too hilarious..and sadly true at the same time. I don't give my parents a choice--i have them automatically get the Cutie Face updates via email--i think i just added their email addresses to my dashboard thing and now the only choice they have is to delete my emailed post--and they never want to delete their grandaughters :)

hope you're doing well besides the lack of affirmation that you are an AMAZING photographer!

Haha! I'm not alone! lol My Mom doesn't read my blog and complains that people in my photos aren't in the center, staring and smiling into the camera lens. I called my Dad and told him that an article I wrote was published in a magazine and he proceeded to tell me how even *he* could be a blogger. lol Thanks Dad.
Great post! I always love visiting you. Come on over and link your WW post up on my linky when you get a chance. See you soon.

Hey! Thanks for the comment. Definitely LOOOVED the stationery. :) I just bought my first SLR so I don't have too much good stuff taken yet, but you can check out my flickr if you're interested: flickr.com/arielle0489.

What kind of diet are you trying to do? (Btw, HATE the word "diet"). I use myfitnesspal.com and it's just basic calorie counting...everything is done for you, there's a forum with AMAZING people. I love it. :) You should check it out!

you probably shouldn't have posted this - you'll have followers coming out of the wood work begging you to do their kids school pictures (by a real stream).

You. Crack. Me. Up.

And you can take my picture...or try. I blink every single time. Had to have my senior pics taken twice. I hear the shutter and blink at it.
It's a family curse...my brother and my mom and I all have it.

Darlin', I have been dealing with that attitude for 40 years. I finally gave up. And to my credit, when I look at what they've purchased, I don't even say "I could have done that whole shoot better and cheaper." Not out loud, anyway.

Andrea said...

Oh that is too much. It reminds me of how I sew a closet full of boutique clothes with designer fabrics for my 6 year old and she wants to wear old hand me downs from the local discount store. Boo hoo!!

Hahahaha! I haven't taken my own kids for "professional" pics since I got my hands on a DSLR. My everyday pics capture way more of who they really are!

I LOVE THE BABY TIE!

I have my own internet set up so that my "home page" is actually my favorite tabs. So every time I open IE, I get a tab for Facebook, my blog, a local moms website, and FitCity Indy.
