a one million dollar farm

‘Where thou art - that - is Home.’

 ~Emily Dickinson

If I had a million dollars today

I would buy my Daddy a farm to grow old on.

He loves farms.shallow 1

It is in his blood.

He never got one because he was too busy working 7 days a week

to take care of our family.shallow He did a remarkable job.

shallow 2

What would you do with a million dollars today!

Hurry up and tell me!

You only have it for this one day only.

‘I had rather be on my farm than be emperor of the world.’

I would buy and restore my grandparent's huge Southern-style house and all the land that surrounds it, and then hand my mama the keys. Then I'd use the rest to resuscitate after she stroked out from the shock of pure happiness.

You are just so sweet. I love how you love your parents. I would buy every one kin to me a storm cellar. We are in for another round of tornadoes so that is on my mind.

I would love to own a farm!! We want 7 acres!! Not too big but big enough. If I had a million dollars i would pay my parents mortgage. Then go get a coffee!!!

Gorgeous pics!
What would I do with 1 million dollars (I'm assuming AFTER taxes...)

I'd buy some land... maybe 10 acres or so.... out in the country. Get a couple horses.... some sweet old mares who love to eat carrots and go for long walks in the woods. Have LOTS of privacy... and of course I'd give up the Glamorous and Sexy world of corporate insurance (shocking, I know) and just be a wife and mom and do lots and lots of volunteer work with little kids... and try to spend my days laughing and making people happy. (And giving away money...) :)

I grew up on a farm! I know realize how blessed I was to have that kind of childhood. Your pictures reminded me of our farm!
If I had a million dollars, I would love to pay off our bills, and give lots of money away!

I would save it all and use it to travel. It would be my travel fund. Thanks. I always wanted a million bucks! ;)

a million dollars??? hmmmm..I'd pay off my student loan, buy a souped-up RV and drive across the country and back, visiting every single state. if I had money left over, I'd rent a house on the cape, invite all my friends to it and have a huge lobster fest.

Funny you should ask that today! Just the other day my husband said that we needed to win just 2 million in the lottery and he had a breakdown of how the first million would be spent. Very practical type stuff, the second million was for church alone!

The first million was allotted for a house, cars, savings and school for the kids, investments, and other good stuff that I can't remember!

Blessings to you!

Thanks for visiting my blog! So nice to "meet" a new friend!

If I had a million dollars... (I'm having a hard time not breaking in to lyrics from the Barenaked Ladies song) I would travel. I'd really like to use it to take a trip to see our sponsored child in Mexico, and to help his village. It would be good to help him, and also for my kids to learn from another culture and how others live with very little.

If I had a million dollars...

Okay, this is too big a decision, I need to think about this. I mean, I can't go spending my million dollars willy-nilly. So much to ponder...

Ah, Emily Dickinson, I love her.

One million dollars? Easy. It all goes straight toward our failing education system. Not to the administrators or the superintendents, not to the principals or even to the teachers. It goes to the students: books and computers and art supplies. The things that the district won't buy, and the teachers desperately wish they would.

thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a sweet comment! your photography is absolutely amazing! this last photo of the dandelion with the barn in the background is just perfect!!

lifebythecreek said...

Hmmm. Well, it would depend on whether or not my hubby knew about it or not... lol! He would want to invest it in land, and make sure that our future is secure. As for me? I would want to use it to help families who have kids with cancer. I'd help the Lighthouse retreat that we love, and I would give a chunk to CURE. I don't think that a million would go as far as I would like, but it would help....

Your photography is so beautiful!!!! I grew up visiting my uncles farm. I used to love going for visits : )

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy a little piece of land and build a house.

With the rest, I'd start a small business - so I could get a freaking job, and hire other folks who are tired of looking!

I think your pictures get better and better each time!!!

Gosh, for one million dollars, I would buy a motor home so we could vacation wherever we wanted, and possibly a condo in Hawaii!

Thanks for the sweet comment, very kind of you. It goes without saying that your shots this week are fantastic, but I'll say it anyway. ;o) My favorite is the dandelion one!

How kind of you to buy a farm for your dad if you had a million dollars. I always think I will win money, but I never do. I think I would move to a tropic island with my family :).

Lovely photos, the last one is so beautiful and great DOF.

I am so glad you stopped by to say hi! I am really enjoying your blog and especially your picture of the wish (dandelion) flower! It's really really pretty. In fact, I adore all your photos. I'm sure I'll be back to read more!

I would buy some land by the sea and give the rest to charity....I already know what land I would like to have and purchasing it, I would still have lots left over for charity.

Mental P Mama said...

I would put half away for my old age and give the other half to the Outreach program at church.

Sonya said...

I would head back to the U.S. and buy a large plot of land and build our house thats next to a large lake. I would help out family, friends and strangers.

shellycoulter said...

Great pictures. Great thoughts. I'm not sure what I would do. Buy my mom & brother houses & decent cars. Save a bunch for my kids college funds & probably give the rest away to families trying to adopt children or to Compassion Intl. :)

Love the story to go with the pictures ;)

Brooke said...

i would tithe off the top, leaving me with $900,000.
pay off our mortgage and business loans leaving me with $750,000.

sheesh that's still a lot of money left. travel to belize, start a college fund for my niece and nephew, then i guess invest the rest. i'm so boring and practical!!

CJ said...

Ahhh! I see a dandelion! Awesome shots, but yea, loving that dandelion :)

Adeena said...

I love your farm pics!! The last one is beautiful.

I would give some of the million to Carey Outreach Ministries, and then I would pay off all of our debt and my family's debt, and take everyone to Europe/Australia. :)

Terry Elisabeth said...

I think you nailed DOF ! That last shot was impressive.
With a million dollars...I would buy a house or an apartment building, get my driver's license, give money to some charities I favor, make sure my boyfriend doesn't have to work while he's at school, go on a cruise which means I would get a passport. Oh and I would hire someone to build me a new blog, custom and all that. Oh and I would buy a fancy camera.

the Lola Letters said...

I would buy back my grandparent's home and HUGE acreage in middle of nowhere Utah. I grew up there and loved it more than I can even express, but sadly, they couldn't afford to retire and still live there...so they had to sell it. I would have given anything to be able to buy it for them. I always thought my kids would grow up there as well.

Sort of breaks my heart. :(

YOU, Miss Becky, have been featured on my blog today ;) I hope you don't mind me stealing your photo. I gave you cred for it though! ;)

Erin said...

These pictures and your words are BEAUTIFUL. I love the sentiment.
I too would love a farm. Several acres, room for the kids to run, and a whole lot of chickens pecking in the dirt.

WackyMummy said...

So pretty! I don't know what I would do with a million dollars. I don't even want to think about it. ;)

Megan (Best of Fates) said...

I've thought about it. If I had a million dollars, I would buy everyone I know a camel, and petition my county to create camel-only highways, where we could all travel by camel.

I mean, it's the obvious answer.

Josh, Steph, The Boys and Maddie said...

I love farms! There is something so enchanting and peaceful about them... What a sweet post for your dad too...

If I had a million dollars, I would get all the photo equipment I ever needed and then buy a house with tons of acreage and have it professionally landscaped so I could book weddings in my backyard and photograph them. I would buy my husband a lifetime golf pass, take my kids on a vacation of their choice, and then donate some to our church. Put some in savings, buy a new car, and oh the ideas are endless... I would just be happy with $100.00... anyone want to donate even just $1.00 to me? We can start a Roper Family Dream fund on blogger? What do you think?

Amber said...

I love the dandylion pic!

With 1 million dollars I would pay off all debts (house car and student loans) by my honny his dream car. Sell the house and get a bigger one and then split what was left between the parents and the in-laws.

Jen said...

I love, love, love, that last shot! And your sentiments about your dad are so beautiful and sweet!

Absolutely beautiful blog! I would want to buy my mom anything she wanted and also a beautiful house nearby us! AND THEN! I would quit my job and hire a housekeeper.

Jenners said...

Gosh I love your photos!!! Gorgeous!

And I think your father would still be working 7 days a week if he got a farm ... they are hard work. But with a million dollars, he could hire everyone to do the hard stuff and just enjoy it!

ZDub said...

Love your shots.

I grew up on a farm, but I don't think I would want another. I'm lazy and they are a lot of work.

I would make sure my kids had some money from my million, I would pay cash for a quaint little house near the beach and I would donate the rest to pancreatic cancer research.

Bunch of Barrons said...

Not sure what I would do. I would probably be all practical, which is good sometimes but can also be no fun, and make sure I paid off all my debt...but after that I'm not sure. These shots, and this post, are so great. I love the color and light in the photos!

Caroline (Frogmum) said...

Beautiful DOF shots! Of course $1,000,000 is not so much in GB£, but I would pay off all our debts, buy us a house of our very own in the country as an investment for my children in the future (we've always rented) and possibly a slightly bigger mini-bus (for reasons of my own)... and then I'd give my Mum enough for help her be comfortable in her retirement years ~ she's scrimped and saved all her life! What was left, which I fear would not be as much as I might like it to be, I would send out to an orphanage for AIDS children in central Africa.

Stacey said...

Darn! I'm a day late! Well since we are dreaming...I'd buy a ranch but close enough to town that I could run to Target when the urge hits. :)

jennykate77 said...

I love that! Farm living is the life for me...well, except for when I need a Starbucks. BEAUTIFUL pictures!!

I think I would give all of my family enough $ to pay off their mortgages. Then I would pay off my house. Then I would pimp out our park in the small town where I live. That's about it...I'd probably be out of money.

Hope you're having a great week!

Stillmary said...

Your DOF shots are STELLAR! Wow!

Sabrina said...

Love your shots as always! Esp. the last one...takes me home. As for a million dollars....move somewhere warmer and closer to a beach perhaps? Oh and the house would have to be really big so that I could move my mom and dad in with us too. ;)

Beautiful shots! I really missed checking out your blog during my job imposed bloggy exile.
If I had a million dollars, I would pay off the mortgage (that we're hopefully about to take out!) and then donate the rest to kids charities and orphanages.
A little selfish and a little more good, seems like a nice balance. =)

Wow that last photo is fabulous! I love it!
If I had a million dollars I would pay off the mortgage and the car and then adopt, adopt, adopt and then adopt some more!

And then..I would set up a fund for all the other couples out there that can't afford the ridiculous high costs of adoption and make their dreams come true too :)

I don't know, but I like farms, too. I don't want a large farm, but a small one would be fun (& hard work). Thanks for stopping by my blog from SITS. I love your little stories & anecdotes.

Hmmm...pay bills, I suppose. That wouldn't take a million, certainly, so I'd use the rest to just buy a small Caribbean condo.

these farm photos are amazing!!!

oh and i'm lame. i would give some to my the Lord, pay bills, pay other peoples bills, set up a college fund for my kids, go on a vacation.
