I don’t think I have ever met anyone that doesn’t like her.
I love the way she mothered me.
She used to put little notes in our bag lunches.
She would cut envelopes in half,
stick quarters inside,
and then she would write little things
on the outside.
Little silly things.
Little sweet things.
Little wonderful things.
She used to make up stories and
read them into a tape recorder.
She let us talk into it too.
We thought that was amazingly cool!
We had so much fun with her
gathered around our kitchen table.
She made childhood magical.
She would sing us songs at bedtime.
She sings so prettily.
She always told us how much she loved us.
When we were very good.
When we were very bad.
Even when we were just normal.
I never doubted that I was loved.
I was only going 2.5 hours away,
I had never been without this family of mine.
She came into our room
and lay beside me until I fell asleep.
I remember thinking
in those moments before I drifted off to sleep
that I had the very best mother in the world.
And I still think that today.
Wishing you the happiest of Birthdays Mommy.
I love you with every bit of my heart.
What is something special your Mom did for you
to make your childhood magical?
P.S. My sister Betsy is having
her baby girl today.
We are so excited to meet
