everlasting

You would love my Mom.grammy_edited-1 She is so kind and good.

I don’t think I have ever met anyone that doesn’t like her.

Seriously.

Ever.

I love the way she mothered me.

There were a million wonderful things she did.grammy 4

She used to put little notes in our bag lunches.

She would cut envelopes in half,

stick quarters inside,

and then she would write little things

on the outside.grammy 1

Little silly things.

Little sweet things.

Little wonderful things.mommy 1

She used to make up stories and

read them into a tape recorder.

She let us talk into it too.

We thought that was amazingly cool!

We had so much fun with her

gathered around our kitchen table.

She made childhood magical.

She would sing us songs at bedtime.grammy 3_edited-1

She sings so prettily.

She always told us how much she loved us.

When we were very good.

When we were very bad.

Even when we were just normal.

I never doubted that I was loved.

mommy_edited-1  I remember before I went to college I was very scared.

I was only going 2.5 hours away,

but still,

I had never been without this family of mine.

She came into our room

and lay beside me until I fell asleep.

I remember thinking

in those moments before I drifted off to sleep

that I had the very best mother in the world.grammy 5

And I still think that today.

Wishing you the happiest of Birthdays Mommy.

I love you with every bit of my heart.

What is something special your Mom did for you

to make your childhood magical?

P.S. My sister Betsy is having

her baby girl today.

We are so excited to meet

Brooke.

Happy baby Brooke too.
I was so fortunate to have a loving Mom also. She's been gone 15 years and I still miss her. Lots of times I think oh I should call her and tell her about something that's been going on with us. She would have enjoyed hearing it. Sometimes I think she is still watching and already knows.

You have such a way with words. You are one lucky girl. My mom was a frazzled single mom, she did try to do special things for us. When we were little she would drag our play table out into the back yard so that we could have picnics. That was always fun.

The exceptionalism of your mother radiates from her eyes and her smile and the enveloping nature of her hugs!

Yes, this post made me cry too. I was thinking of all the wonderful things my mother did for us too. I was thinking how lucky I am to still have her and that I should pay tribute to her on my blog one day too. You have inspired me to think about doing that for her as well.

When we were little she would have carrot sticks, apples and celery with cream cheese sprinkled with paprika waiting for us when we'd get off the school bus. She would make a clean your plate club chart for us perfectly lined with a ruler and put gold stars for cleaning our dinner plates. She used to wrap our sandiches in waxed paper for lunch (with a precision fold) She would bake homemade cookies and stir Hershey's chocolate on the stove to make us real hot chocolate. She cooked dinner every single night (gourmet). She left us notes all the time, especially on the morning of special occasions. They were always signed Love, Mother.
When I went to Europe on a trip with my high school I was excited but very scared. She mailed a letter to each of the hotels on my itineray well in advance and had them hold it at the front desk until I arrived...I was so thrilled to get my letter at each location (this was long before the internet and cell phones)...and my mom had never even been to Europe her whole life.
She was...and still is...a wonderful mother (and grandmother)

Thank you for reminding me that I too should be so grateful.

Happy Birthday to your Beautiful Mom......and Happy Birthday to Baby Brooke!

I too am so fortunate to have a similar relationship with my mom. She lives just a mile from my house and we speak on the phone at least once a day. My mom did so much to make my childhood super special. One thing that sticks out to me is our Saturdays. She worked outside the home and she made it a point to make our Saturdays special and all about US. I try to do that with Isaiah now and it's still mine and my mom's special day sometimes. I LOVE her!
