Hats on for Haiti

Kaishon’s school is hosting

a Hats On For Haiti event on Friday.

If you donate .50 you can wear a hat.

This morning I was trying to hand Kaish

.50 to hand in.

And he said he already had some money.kaishon black and white

It turns out

my sweet Kaishon

had $42 in his pocket to donate.

He was donating all of his Birthday money.

Every single penny.

And you know what I did?

I tried to talk him out of it.kaishon 1 black and white

I really did.

I said,

“Honey, that is ALL of your money.

Remember that Ben Ten toy you want at Toys R Us?”

And he said,

“I’ve seen how bad it is on TV Mom.

They need it more than me.”

And he walked out the door.

I am ashamed that I tried to talk him out of it.

You see, I did give to Haiti.kaishon 2 black and white

But I did NOT give everything like Kaishon did.

He teaches me lessons constantly.

He is my heart, that child.

My heart.

It reminds me of Luke 21:1-4 where the widow gave all of her money. That's the true test. Are we willing to give it all? It's an amazing person who can do that. I am so touched by Kaishon's generosity.

This totally made me cry. What a beautiful heart your son has. I don't think you were trying to talk him out of it as much as you were trying to make sure he understood what he was doing in giving ALL of his money. A very beautiful son you have. I LOVE hearing storys like this! :)

How is it that children "get it" when adults don't? No wonder Jesus got mad when the disciples tried to keep the kids away from Him. He KNEW they were the only ones who really, REALLY understood who He was and what He wanted. Kaish is one special boy.. but then again, he has one special mama...

Oh wow, how convicting!!! Children sure do have a way of bringing us under conviction. Somewhere between child and adult we lose this kind of spirit, may he NEVER! Praise the Lord for his giving heart!

Like many here, this brought a tear to my eye. You have a wonderful boy there, but do not sell yourself short. He's able to give all that he has because of the security and stability you provide for him.

Please don't feel guilty about talking to your son about this. His impulse of generosity is fantastic, and truly laudable. Still, it is a lesson that we all must learn -- balance, in this and all things.

If I give all today, I have nothing left to give tomorrow. That to continue in a lifetime of charitable activities, I had to take care of myself, also. It is important to give, and I do, I just did early this morning.

But don't feel shame, feel wonder, both in your son, and yourself. He was able to give all, because he also has such trust in you. He didn't need to keep any aside to pay for roofs over heads, and food in fridges. As adults, that is what we must do.

It's lovely to see such a giving heart, and a good soul in our kids, isn't it? But again, don't feel guilty for not having that same freedom. It is the responsibility of being an adult. The very thing that allows your son to think so fully of others, because his own needs are met by you.

Take care! Congratulations on the post of the week mention at Hilary's!
