An Adventure: Mercer Museum Doylestown, PA

Where do you take 2 little boys

with limitless energy

after they have been off from school

for 8 days in a row?

castle 001Well, you take them to a museum of course.

Mercer Museum in Doylestown, Pa.

Now, in my defense,

I thought it was a castle!

And it turns out,

there is a castle,

just a half mile away!

I went to the wrong place…

Whoops!castle 003 It was a very wonderful experience

despite being in the *wrong* place!

AND despite the fact that

Kaish and Shoshi are absolutely refusing

to look at the camera in any way!castle 004 They loved climbing the stairs!

And, oh my word, were there stairs!

And little hallways.

And little hiding places!

castle 005  They learned how to drive a sleigh.

And then they pleaded for me to find

a real sleigh for them to drive!

And you know how easy it is to

locate a place for children to drive a sleigh, right?

No? You have never heard of a place for children

to drive a sleigh?

Me either!

That didn’t stop them from

begging and pleading to find one though…

castle 007I was going to tell you that my favorite thing today

was the windows.

The windows were amazing!

But then I remembered

the imagination room-

a little cove on the 8th floor.

Filled with instruments.

LOUD instruments.

castle 009 And even though it was a little loud-

(or a lot loud depending on how you look at it!)

castle 008 Their joy as they danced and jumped and rocked,

well, it was definitely my favorite thing about the day.

castle 006

Even better than the light from the pretty windows!

I think we will go to the Castle over Christmas break!

Does your town have a castle?

Or a Museum?

Do you go?sunday citar’There are no rules of architecture

for a castle in the clouds.’

this looks like fun..but then again, it always looks like fun with you and the boys!!!
I don't think we have a castle. Unless you consider 'sand castles' to be a castle??? But we do have a little 'town' museum. I have not been. We also have a halocaust museum, my girls want me to take them, but I know I will get too emotional to go. Yes, I cry all the time for nothing...if I go there, I will cry for something.
Hugs, Suz

Gorgeous shots, like always. I wish I knew how you get your pics to be so big on your blog? Hint! Hint! Probably some awesomely high tech above my capability thing like pushing a button. Anyway. I haven't taken the dudes to a museum in ages, which is sad b/c we live less than an hour from some of the best museums in the world, Washington D.C. But, you know #3 is quite the handful these days.

I just get the metaphorical raspberry whenever I suggest a museum to my girl -- unless I make it part of a day that includes a gang of her friends, pizza and ice cream!

When she was 2-4 years old we used to go to the Seattle Art Museum, pick out one painting and sit in front of it making up stories, then leave.

This museum looks very cool -- like one to explore more than just tour.

Gorgeous photos, you really know how to capture light. We have a castle about 1/2 hour from here, but we have never been. I bet they have some cool stuff going on for the holidays, we'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing your adventure with your beautiful boys.

We need to get to the Mercer Museum. We were at the castle a couple of weeks ago, but did not go in. I haven't been to the Mercer Museum when I was in elementary school! Looks like a fabulous time!

That's a great quote. There are no castles for little ones to visit here unfortunately.

I think we need to appreciate history a little more.

Thanks for sharing!
