Nine Years Old

I don't know how he is so big!
Sometimes I turn around and when I look back at him,
it seems like he just grew.
That quickly.
SO quickly.
I love every year.
He is trying out for student council this week.
He is SO excited.
We practice his speech every night at tuck in time.
It has changed eleventy eleventy million times.
Of course I like how it sounds each time.
He tried to be a Student Playground Aid
and he didn't get elected.
He told me when the teacher was announcing it
he had to pinch his leg so he wouldn't cry...
It hurts when your kids hurt,
doesn't it?
I hope he gets to be on student council.
I think he is the greatest 9 year old on the planet.
Were you on the student council?
I was in college.
Such fun.
That's the real trouble with the world,
too many people grow up.
They forget.
They don't remember what it's like to be 12 years old.
They patronize, they treat children as inferiors.
Well I won't do that.”
Walt Disney
Our internet is not working.
Please keep loving me!
: )
Pretty please.

I'm holding good thoughts for Kaishon's bid for the student council! They do grow so quickly, don't they?

And how can we not hurt when our kids hurt? Mine are grown, but I still hurt with and for them when bad things happen or even just disappointing things

You're a wonderful example for mothers everywhere and I always enjoy your blog and seeing and reading about Kaishon and your family!

Have a great week!

Sylvia

Good luck with the stuco running. Even if he doesn't get it, he's a winner. Time flies when a kid is involved. I know how you are feeling. It seems like yesterday they were just so little. Yes, I've heard that the only pain worse than when your child hurts is when your child's child hurts. That is a double hurt.

Sorry you are still having internet issues.

They have SC in elementary school. I guess in FL they had it for 5th graders... I was not on SC, not one of the popular kids!!!

KAISHON for Student Council!!! That handsome, intelligent boy will definitely make it. Go, Kaishon!

Yes, it does hurt when my kids hurt. I wish I can completely keep them away from that kind of feeling, and believe me I try. It just hurts my heart to see them in any pain, emotional or otherwise.

Don't worry, Rebeckah! Your true blog friends will always be here for you! =)

Very Happy Birthday!

Had one of those hurtful moments this summer.....it ripped me apart inside but my little guy handled it so well. It is hard to have to learn to cope with disappointment. Hope he gets elected.

Happy belated birthday Kaish! I will keep my fingers crossed about the student council thing.

Yes, the hurt we feel for our child's hurts are more intense than any other...

No, I was not on student council but I did get to be assistant stage manager for stage crew my senior year of high school!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for him to win! I know what you mean when your babies are hurt and you can't help them you feel so helpless!

One thing, children are so resilient!

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I hate the idea of my kids being hurt and not being able to help... So much easier when they're infants and you can fix everything with a bottle, a diaper or a cuddle.

Keeping my fingers crossed for him!

What a great post and Happy Happy Birthday to Kaishon! I love 9-year-olds as that's the age I used to teach (Grade 4 in Canada). I do hope he'll win as it sounds like he's truly working on it and wants to take an active role in school life.

Fingers crossed that he gets onto the student council.

Yes, I felt every emotion of my girls' childhood and now that they're grown women I *still* laugh when they laugh and cry when they cry!

Any chance of you emailing me whenever you get the opportunity? (she said, being all cloak and dagger about it)! ;) I don't see an email link on your site. (You'll find my email listed over on my site in the side columnn).

I didn't know Student Council started so young! We didn't have one until high school.

Your 9 year old is pretty great. :) I am rather fond of my 10yo and 8yo.

Pinch his legs so he wouldn't cry?! Oh my God that seriously made my heart sink. I actually felt it. Poor boy. I think I would have run into the laundry room crying if one of mine said that to me.

I hope he gets to be on the student council. Good for him for trying!

My Kate turns 9 in a couple weeks. So hard to believe.

Hey Beca!! R1 made student council and a UIL team. The UIL team have been practicing every morning for a month and then the state decided they aren't going to fund the 4th grade team he made so there will not be a catagory for him and his team mates to compete in. He was very disappointed! I know Kaish will make Stuco! I just know it!!
