The Bolero in Wildwoods, New Jersey

Gary loves the beach-

Like nobody’s business.

The first time we ever went

the the ever so glamorous Wildwoods, New Jersey,

Gary said we should stay where he had stayed

when he was growing up.

I sent our reservation in

and got packed.

And when we arrived

I could NOT believe my eyes.

We couldn’t even open the room to our motel door.

The bed was in the way.

There was SHAG carpet.

Oh my gosh, even now, it makes my skin crawl!

We had to maneuver over the bed to get to the bathroom.

The TV had tin foil rabbit ears….

and when I inquired about it,

I was told we had the highest quality room our money could buy…

I wanted to cry.

The next year we stumbled upon the Bolero,

and it has been our vacation hotel ever since.

When you think of Wildwoods,

Imagine 70’s decor

that never left.

wildwood new jersey 071 Compared to the other hotels in Wildwoods though,

well, you might think you are staying at a 5 star resort.

I know we did : )wildwood new jersey 005 If you don’t have anything to write about today,

you should TOTALLY head over to

Mayhem and Moxie where they are having a special

tribute to your Summer vacation today.

Don't grow up too quickly,

lest you forget how much you love the beach.’

Do you have a regular

vacation hotel?

OR

How do you feel

about shag carpet?

Jersey girl here. I went to Wildwood every summer during my high school years. Yeah, ummm, we stayed at the Lollipop Motel ! LOL Some things never change and I think the motels in Wildwood made the list.

Sounds like a wonderful place to stay. Sometimes men have different ideas than we do. Ha Got a good laugh over that. I wonder how many of us have gone through that when first married.

we had to go to one similar in the middle of the night a while back cause my neighbors car accidentally filled our house up with carbon dioxide (or is it minoxide?)....the 'in the wall' air conditioner was actully leaking water all over the carpet, reaching half way to the bed. it was hot but i had to turn it off cause all i kept thinking was 'it's electrical' and sitting in a puddle of water....it smelled musty too! total sympathies! blessings..

Ah, we had a stay like this one at the Comfort Inn right off the turnpike at the Pocono exit - awful, awful - I can't say awful enough. But, it makes for great and funny memories, right?

I don't think I've ever seen the Bolero. We stayed at the Las Vegas Motel which is now Mark I in Wildwood Crest.

Take care!

My boys love the beach too! As you can tell from my blog. They would sleep in a card board box, and be happy about it, as long as they were at the beach!

I love the beach too...it's been too long since I've been there!

Shag carpet though...I didn't even like it in the 70's!

we do have a regular vacation spot! every year, since my husband was 5, his family has been traveling to North Carolina to the beach. we have joined them in the past and this year was our first year taking our son. it was a blast! and what a great tradition! it's pretty outdated, the hotel. but we know the owners, it's quiet, clean, and right smack dab in front of the beach. we look past the dated decor and just look forward to the beach!

Ha, I've spent some time in those "lost in the 70s" motels in OCNJ.... well, but then again, that was in the 80s, so I guess they weren't too lost! Thankfully now most of our visits we are able to stay at my Aunt's house on the beach! Great photos of what I know was a wonderful summer!

We don't have a regular vacation hotel but I always look for well-kept, clean hotels. The shag carpet would have me walking out of there so fast. You're brave for staying there.

Wow. Your blog is GORGEOUS. I love the clean template and beautiful photography.

I did want to know more "about you" but I guess I'll just have to wait.

Thanks for stopping by to see M-M-M-Moxie Mona.

I totally know what you mean. We went there and I couldn't believe what an AWFUL room we got and how much $$$ we had to pay for it. Guess it's all about location!

My daughter has a slight shag carpet in her room. Shag in a hotel, though, is just creepy. Can you imagine all that is hiding in there? Yikes!

shag carpet says vaca to me! I am all about the shag carpet. I am having some installed as I write, just so I feel like I am on vaca all of the time!

I grew up with shag carpet, which is probably why we have wood floors now...

Hello,
Thank you for your heartfelt comments on my blog.

I've been out of sorts lately.

Had to come by and say hi and see what's going on. You're post is hilarious. Yes, I'll admit, grew up with pink shag carpet LOL. But if I found it in my hotel, I'd probably have flashbacks and go running to the nearest campground!

The beach is amazing this time of year!

This is funny!!! We have stayed at some really bad hotels over the years and we usually don't stay at the same place twice!

Shag carpeting was waaay cool when I was a teen. I had my own rake for it and everything! Now... not so cool!

Liz (Loving Mom 2 Boys) said...

Oh...ick...Shag rug?! shudders I think I am crying a bit for you!!!

Liz said...

Wow... that hotel sounds pretty awful! We usually stay at different places when we vacation. I grew up with a family beach house and I think always staying at the same place isn't real fun anymore.

The words "shag carpet" stopped me dead in my tracks. Are you serious? I have way too many scary images floating around in my head after that one.

You are a brave, brave woman, my friend. :)

We go somewhere on the Jersey shore almost every year when we visit my brother and SIL. One year, we decided to stay in a hotel for two nights and it was the WORST hotel I have ever been in in my entire life. And it was the most expensive! I was so horrified...I don't think I ever took off my shoes the entire time I was in the room (that shag carpet and all. Yuck!)

I so feel you pain on this one. lol!
