Barefoot Boy

by John Greenleaf Whittier

summer beach 2

Blessings on thee, little man,
Barefoot boy, with cheek of tan!

summer beachsummer swim

With thy turned-up pantaloons,
And thy merry whistled tunes;

summer art center

With thy red lip, redder still
Kissed by strawberries on the hill;

summer fourth of july

With the sunshine on thy face,
Through thy torn brim’s jaunty grace;

summer mila

From my heart I give thee joy,—
I was once a barefoot boy!

bridge bridge 2 bridge 3  summer naji golfing 2Our summer has been magnificent.

We conquered the beach,

the parks, the pool, the art center, and the fair!

We took long car rides to fun places!

We played outside in the sun!

Thank goodness there is 1 month left!

YAY for Summer!

What has been your favorite

thing about summer so far?

Great way to sum up summer! And the poem, well I was born in Whittier...a town named after him- and the local mall, even though remodeled 100 times since, still has one of my favorites by him on a building next to a bizarre sun sculpture: "The windows of my soul I throw wide open to the sun."

Happy Monday, lMnop

Hi, Rebeckah! I love your summer photos story. You all look like you're having the time of your lives. I'm so jealous! It's just so hot here in TX to do anything fun without melting. LOL I love the way you incorporate poems with your pictures.

My favorite thing about the summer so far? I did my first 5K this past Saturday and made the newspaper! And on top of that, I won a painting after the run. I'm still in shock, actually. Happy, but very surprised. :)
