I stink. I think. Plink. Twink. Blink.

I never smell good.
That sounds bad.
It’s not that I don’t try.
I should say,
that I don’t smell as good as normal girls.flowers 001
I try all the yummy and smelly things
that everyone uses.
And I still don’t smell like
sun ripened raspberries or cotton fields or lemon pies.juniper breeze
Well, I do for one instant.
Maybe ten minutes, tops!
And then I go downstairs and walk out to the car
and sniff the air
and it is gone.
The good smell is gone.
Completely gone.
It makes me want to cry.
I smelled this great smelling perfume in a magazine once.
It smelled so good.
I ran right out to Macy’s to get some.
I almost fainted when I heard the price.
I think it was $70 .
I am very cheap.
I never spend that much on myself.
But really, it smelled so divine,
so I threw caution to the wind,
and bought it.usher she collection
I brought it home.
I squirted some on.
And guess what.
It didn’t smell the same on me as it did on the magazine.
I wore it any way : )
I have been wearing it for almost 2 years.
Every day.
A squirt in the air and dab behind each ear and my wrists.
The bottle is almost empty.
Gary has never commented on it
ever.
And guess what he told me the other day,
right after I got home from work,
driving in the almost 100 degree sun
sans air conditioning?
“Man, I just love your perfume, Beck.”
And I said, “This isn’t perfume, it’s sweat.”
And he said, “Well, whatever it is, I love it.
You should wear it every day.”
So, apparently my sweat smells better than perfume.
That’s good to know, right?

You are hilarious!!! Oh my goodness! My favorite scent is Pleasures Intense. Love it!

Girl, I am LOVIN' your new blog makeover! It looks GREAT!

First thanks for coming by my blog today; I really appreciated your comments.
I don't have a signature scent because as my husbands likes to say "I don't smell good"; i.e I really have hardly any sense of smell. So I am always leery of smell lotions and perfumes as I wouldn't know if I had too much on.

Trudy said...

That's pretty funny...just like a man to never notice anything like that. I'm glad he liked your scent though, LOL!

My favorite is still Estee' Lauder's Beautiful. I haven't had it for a long time though because it's still also very expensive.

Martha in PA said...

Right now my favorite is Angel. I did a "mommy splurge" and bought myself a "gift box" for Mother's Day.

Heidi said...

Ok, I TOTALLY feel ya on the whole "not smelling" good thing. I think I am just immune to my own smell (which is probably your situation too) I mean, I'd like to think that I smell good to others...but maybe I don't! LOL. I LOVE "Lovely" by SJP.....it's yummy and the bottle is super cute too. My go to bath & body scent is sweet pea in summer and vanilla in winter. Yep, not only do I stink but I'm boring too! LOL

Oh yea, another really romantic smelling b&b is moonlit path...smells like date night! LOL

I cannot wear perfume and most of the smelly lotions make me break out in a rash... so I just go with the old school Jergens apple blossom lotion and hope I don't stink! LOL!

gretchen said...

I was thinking you always smelled like sun ripened raspberries in college, but maybe you just kept sneaking behind my back and putting more on. :)

I don't think I have a favorite scent...nothing too strong, just simple and fresh...mabye citrus?

Busy Bee Suz said...

You are so funnny and I refuse to believe that you stink.
I never wear perfume. NEVER. Do you think I stink? NAH. Never.

O.K., that post really made me laugh! Thanks for the comment you left on my blog awhile ago. Life's been too busy for me to respond til now...
You are really funny! I don't wear perfume usually because of the price, but I used to really like "Happy". I read that guys really like the smell of pheremones, so that must be the scent of choice for your man!

bigmamacass said...

I feel the exact same way. LOL

My favorite scent changes daily! It is usually candle inspired though :)

Caroline said...

Gosh, I rarely wear perfume..I just got a free sample of LAMB by Gwen Stefani that smelled amazing!

I'm loving Pleasures...but I don't wear it daily since I'm running out.

I feel the same way...I either put a little on and it doesn't smell or I put to much on and everyone says "what is that SMELL?" like I am a little girl who got into mom's perfume! My favorite is Happy by Clinique

Hmmm...maybe you should create your own perfume line! I know...you could call it "Sweatalicious"! LOL! You have me rolling on the floor in laughter, girl! Right now, my favorite scent is Beautiful Love by Estee Lauder. My hubby got it for me for my birthday! Simply divine!

My 4 year old boy informed me last week (after taking in a big sniff) that I smelled like a mom.

I'll take that.

i have two....one that's inexpensive for occassions where i probably won't see anybody but family or friends....which is 'navy.' if you haven't smelled this, you should....it reminds you of just taking a bath and putting on some nice body powder, very subtle and fresh smelling and only about $10 a bottle.....

then there's the 'i'm gonna catcha man' fragrance i've coveted for years...it's 'amarige' by givenchy...it's the most amazing scent i've ever smelled but at a cost of about $50-75 per bottle.....

You are just too funny!!! My favorite perfume is Happy by Clinique. I have been wearing it for years now and I still get compliments on it.

Speaking as a long time smell insensitive lout of a spouse, I'll let you in on a secret - a man will only notice and comment on your scent just after you have changed to a new one.

I still recognize the scent my wife wore 38 years ago when we started dating. Now if I could just convince her to wear it once more. Or for that matter even find it anymore. {*grin*}

Nessa said...

I have the same problem(?) so i just kind of stick with clean.

So here is where the tomboy in me comes out, growing up my fav smell was racing fuel and dust from a motocross track and as an adult my fav scent is the smell of smoke in my hair from a fire we just fought all night long! I guess it is a good thing I am marrying another firefighter this fall! lol!

Unknown Mami said...

Sounds like you smell fine all on your own.

I am a no perfume kinda gal. Scents can be a little too much for me as my sense of smell seems to be heightened.

Mental P Mama said...

That is so wonderful! And I like a fragrance from Creed....called Fleurissimo. Divine!

Grandma J said...

LOL!! You are a riot! How nice that Gary loves your natural aroma....I'm sure it must be very, very sweet!

I wear Tresor by lancome, but on a days when I don't get out and about I use my Bath and Body Works stuff.

AngieB said...

Most perfumes give me headaches, so I have to be feeling really brave to try something new. I wear Bulgari White, but I don't think my husband's ever noticed it!

Pilar said...

Agua by Loewe for perfum and Japanesse cherry blossom for lotion

mamamia said...

moms never smell wonderful, that is just the way it is. Your picture of Kaishon blowing bubbles is wonderful, however. great! I think the chocolate covered bananas look divine! you are divine!

Roxane said...

You are too funny! I have a tough time with perfumes too. They always smell so strong on me. I just cant wear them without feeling like "that girl" who sprays herself ten times before leaving the house!

Noe Noe Girl...A Queen of all Trades. said...

You crack me up girlie! I love perfume. I wear it almost every day. The only one who ever notices is my Little T.
That Gary of yours is a keeper!

Grandma Nina said...

I have the same problem with perfumes. And if I put too much on to keep the smell longer, it gives me a headache. I just use a scented lotion after a shower or bath. It still doesn't last very long, but it's cheap and good for the skin.

jennykate77 said...

I think it means that you just naturally smell good! :) No need to spend all that money on high dollar perfumes! However, I would just like to say that you are WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I LOVE, like ADORE, the new blog layout!

Hope you're having a great day!

stargurrl13 said...

My favorite scent is Gain laundry detergent (the ORIGINAL....none of that "Island Breeze" crap)!

I'm the same way about my smell.....perfume just doesn't last on me. I loved this post because I've been talking to a new man and we've discussed the scent issue (because he broke up with a girl for the way she smelled....and he said she didn't smell bad, but their scents didn't mesh well together. Anyway, I'm totally obsessed now with how I'm going to smell to him. Weird, huh?

Can you believe I'm having time to blog AND make comments???

Michelle said...

That cracks me up! But hey, at least he likes YOUR scent. Definitely better than the alternative, no?

I love the smell of grass. I actually had a grass perfume once. But Happy from Clinique is my favorite scent, not just because of the name but because it smells good, too!

Jenners said...

So funny! I can relate to this. I fell in love with Clinique's Happy when I smelled it on this girl in my tennis class but it didn't smell anything like that on me! I didn't realize perfumes don't smell the same on different people!!! Now I have a whole bottle of it and I don't really use it. And frankly, I'd be relieved if my sweat smelled so sweet! Less work!

Farmers Wife said...

Oh God I love perfume and wear it every day. My favourite is Joop, but the mans Joop. I started wearing this when I had my holiday in America and have adored it ever since. I have 4 other favourites but this one is the best.....

Mama Kat said...

That's funny because someone on Oprah was just talking about our natural scents and that it's part of what attracts us to our mates.

Looks like yours works for your man...maybe you should bottle it.

Molly said...

Haha! That is so funny! Go with the sweat girl...it's cheaper!
My fav perfume is Kenneth Cole Black. Yummy and expensive, so I hardly wear it. :)

g said...

Ah, so you sweat perfume!! You divine creature!

What a lovely post. Humble and yet uplifting. And full, in the end, of love.

I have two perfumes - D&G Light Blue that I love and Clinique Happy that I wear to feel happy.

YOur blog got a makeuover since I was here last, I really like it!

Haha, some of us sweat nothing wrong with that. Science says it contains pheromones that attract men, oh la la.

Adrienne in Ohio said...

You are funny, Rebeckah. I can't really wear perfume--it gives me a headache. But I did find a scented lotion that doesn't bother my head. It's the Sweet Pea scent from Bath and Body Works.

drewmark19 said...

I don't wear perfume, mainly because I'm afraid I'll apply it too heavily and everyone will be making faces about the smell behind my back. I used to use a country apple lotion from Bath & Body way back when. If I smell that, it takes me right back to when I was dating Mark. I love how scents can bring back memories instantly.

Dot O said...

You are sooo funny!!! I wear Moonlight Path from Bath and Body Works and although I cannot smell it on myself anymore, others always comment (positively) about the scent.

I'm sure you do smell very nice. However, our noses eventually get used to the smell and we no longer can tell if we still smell good.

I also like Sweet Pea (like Adrienne)...

Mellisa said...

I loved this post! I have two scents that my husband comments on. So those are the ones that I wear. But his scent is the one that I like. No cologne - just him.

We like Red Jeans and Happy!

Louise said...

This is hilarious. I think we can't smell ourselves because our noses adjust, but for someone else to not smell it is strange. Those B&BW lotions last ALL day in my world.

Your sweat must smell MUCH better than mine!

Liz said...

You are too funny! My favorite perfume is actually J.Lo's Miami Glow. It smells so good!

Josh, Steph, The Boys and Maddie said...

I never wear any perfume... I guess I prefer to be stinky!

Pam D said...

Hee.. you are TOO funny! My scent (go ahead, laugh...) is Avon's original Skin So Soft body oil. I rub it in after I shower and before I dry off and let it soak in. It keeps my skin from totally drying out AND it keeps the mosquitoes away. As for perfumes, I love Estee Lauder... Beautiful, Pleasures, and White Linen are all favorites. But hubby gets migraines, and strong scents can be a trigger, so I don't perfume up any more.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog to check on me. I've been REALLY busy to the point of not having time to blog. Makes me sad, but I do like being busy! Anyway... you're a sweetie!

mimi said...

I never wear perfume. I just never think about it. I think I wear "eau de la playing" or maybe "parfum de mud" ?

Melinda said...

I have such expensive taste, but like you nothing ever smells the same on me as it did in the magazine or even in the bottle. So I have to experiment before I purchase anything. I love Burberry and Channel.

Live.Love.Eat said...

LOl. Oh, I am sure you smell better than you think!!!!!! I usually don't wear perfume but sometimes I put it on my ankles because I am afraid of wearing too much.
