Be Kinder than Necessary

Today I will:
"Be Kinder than necessary"
James Matthew Berrie

How do you like to show kindness?
I usually try to be kind.
This week I haven't been.
I realized it
when I was pushing my grocery
cart to the car the other day
and a little, old lady almost ran me over.
I scowled at her.
And then I kept my mean face on all thru the store.
As I was unloading the bags an hour later,
I felt sick to my stomach.
I love little old ladies.
I hate scowlers.
And even though I realized that then,
I have just been too busy to be nice this week.
And that makes me sad!
So tomorrow,
I am going to be kinder than necessary.
What is your favorite way to show kindness?

Wow, that is a real eye opener there! Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had a 'be kinder than necessary' day! I tend to smile a lot when I want to be especially kind. I also pray a lot, because I know that kindness doesn't come from me!

When I used to torture and yell at people all day at work, I'd bring donuts the next day and everyone would hug and forget how mean I was the day before.

What a wonderful world this would be if everyone were kinder than necessary. I'm joining you!

ok, so i "try" to be nice when driving, you know, let people pull out of parking lots, change lanes, etc. but i often find that when i "pause" to be polite, they take two seconds too long and then i get all angry...

**glad i'm not the only one who wasn't focused on Melinda's cows...teehee**

You are just so sweet and honest. It's what I love about you. I always try to smile at people. Lately, I don't think I am a very nice person because of how I am feeling inside. So I try to be conscious of how I am being to others, but most of all to my husband and kids.

Oh..I know what you mean! I totally do not like to have that "annoyed" feeling!!! It's so hard not to sometimes!!!

Hmm...how am I kind? If I make eye contact w/ someone, I'll be sure to smile at them to show that I'm at least I'm acknowledging them.

I have days where I don't feel like being so kind. But for the most part I just try to be friendly and speak to people as I pass them.

Wait no "O", did you have a block like me? I loved this...you are so real and that is what christianity is about. God is always at work within us and revealing things in us that need to be purified. Thank you for being a shining example of letting the Lord work within your heart and life...love you!

Boy that title really caught my attention. For me, I am always kind to people outside of my family. Sometimes not so kind to my family. Why is that? I'm going to seriously work on it.

When I am out and about, I really do try to be kind all the time, but there are things that make that difficult - others being rude or inconsiderate! I try to let it go, but sometimes, some days it is just tough! I hope you have a great weekend... it is almost here!

You scowled at an old lady??? Really???? I am shocked. Shocked I say.
I really make an effort to put a smile on my face for everyone I encounter....it can be hard, but I think we need to all do this.

I just can't picture you scowling!

Well, I'm ovulating this week(TMI)and that always makes me irritable and grumpy. I'll try....I'll really try to be kinder than necessary today (especially when talking with my MIL-OY!)Thanks for the reminder.

LOL - my comment is the exact same as Mimi's. I have not been a nice person at all this week. But because you are going to make that little extra effor to do something nice tomorrow (although, I can't ever imagie you not being nice), I think I'll try that too : )

I will go out of my way to be kinder today...even though it is raining. Great idea.

How great would this be everyone did this. I try to smile at everyone every day, no matter how I feel. My smile might be the only thing that brightens their day.

Imagine a world where everyone is "Kinder than Necessary".

This brings two songs to mind Louis "Armstrong: "What a Wonderful World" and michael jackson: "Man in the Mirror"

I think dandelions are under-rated and I only have about 10 days until I leave for Pennsylvania.
I can hardly wait!

great idea! This reminds me of college when we would go to the dollar store and make care packages for people, or drive through mcdonald's for ice cream cones to bring to people. those were the funnest days ever!

I, usually, try to offer a smile as often as I can. I like to hold the door open for people and allow others to go ahead of me in the check out lines. A little bit of kindness can go a long way!

Excellent advice! I find that when I smile and say a few words to people I meet on the street or in the stores, they open up and are kinder, too. And I suddenly am in a much better mood! Of course, some days I have to force myself to be nice:)

By the way, Kaishon looks very handsome with his new haircut!

I know exactly what you mean about needing one of those days! I try to have nice moments, because lord knows I cant guarantee anyone a whole nice day! So I pick random acts of kindness, like letting someone go ahead of me while in traffic if they are waiting for ever for someone to let them out!

I got really mad at an older gentleman on a huge tractor today. He was taking up both lanes in the road and there was no way I could get past him so I drove 15 mph for five minutes. Argh.

But really - was five minutes of my time worth getting angry over? I should have made myself smile through it! :)

that is a good thing to do, tomorrow I am going to try and be kinder too.

i love to let strangers "go first"...i got to do this alot recently at disneyworld...my hope is it stops and makes them think, "why would they do that" and realize it's Jesus' love in me and they draw closer to him! great post too! blessings...

I find myself slipping into that same scowl. Sometimes I do it when I'm driving and then I think, boy how would I feel if someone were looking like that at MY mom. It's good to take a step back and change your behavior. I'm proud of you. :)

Bonnie said...

I think sometimes it's easy to take out our frustrations on strangers.
I am going to try to be kinder to my kids this week. They have been out of school and driving me a little nutty! I just need to draw on my patience reserve... if I have any left..haha

Jason, as himself said...

I think I'm just naturally kind most of the time, but it is so easy to forget to go out of my way to do kind things.

I want to remember to look for ways to be kind, not just if the opportunity hits me over the head.
