Marriage Advice

What are you putting off right now?

I have some Marriage advice.
Some really, really GREAT marriage advice.
I wish someone would have shared this with me-
when I got married
exactly 1 year, 8 months, and 26 days ago...

BUY A KING SIZE BED!

Here is my story.
My sad, sad story!
Kaish and I were buying furniture for our new house.
We go to a store and start buying.
Sofa and chairs. Check.
Kitchen table and chairs. Check.
Kaishon's bed and dresser. Check.
And that is when the problem occured.
There were tons of PRETTY beds.
I found the MOST perfect one in the store.

Super, duper happy was I : )

The salesman said "Do you want this size? Queen?"
I looked at it and it looked HUGE.
Like humungous. Like WAY huger than my twin bed.
It looked perfect.
Of course I said "Yes. Queen would be perfect, thanks."

I am sad to report,
1 year, 8 months and 26 days later,
that Queen size is NOT perfect.
It is not wonderful.
It is not OK at all.

Gary, my AMAZING husband,
of 1 year, 8 months and 26 days,
says I hog the bed.
This is RIDICULOUS in every way.
He is the bed hog.
I want more room.
I need more room.

I need a KING SIZE BED.
I wish someone would have told me
that boys are bed hogs.
They say it is us...
but that is a lie!
I am starting a fund for a new bed.
A new BIG spacious bed.
I just can't take one more WHINE about bed hogging.
Puuuuuuuuuuuuhlease!

What size do you have?
Do you hear about bed hogging all the time too?
It's crazy, I tell you.
Simply CRAZY!

We have a queen also, but with all the kids in and out...wish we had a king size bed for sure.

we have a king and will NEVER go back. the other secret to a great marriage (i'm eleven years in :) is seperate blankets. i know, it's sounds crazy, but we do not even share a sheet! we have our own bedding on our own sides. no fighting over the comforter, not pulling the sheet to your side. he has his blankets, i have mine. makes for a happy couple. we cuddle until we're ready to sleep and then happily retreat to our respective sides!

We spent the first 3 years of married life in a full (double) size bed! Pile it with a couple of cats and there was no room left to be a bed hog. We never really noticed the lack of room until we went on vacation and had a queen size and then a king size bed in the hotels. We discovered that you could actually roll over instead of flip over (not enough room to roll in a full size). So 10 months ago, our new house meant a new bed and we graduated to a queen size. After a full size for 3 years, the queen seems huge. LOL

Funny you posted this. Cdub and I were just saying we should have gotten a king. We have a queen...mistake. Because men and boys are bed HOGS!

We have a queen bed, Rebeckah, but do keep in mind that Chris and I are SHORT, so I'm sure that makes a difference! On a really good day, I'm 5 ft. even...Chris is 5'4". If we had a king bed, we'd never find each other! Of course, I have to admit that there are days when I wish I had just a little more room to sprawl out. Hope you're able to get the bed of your dreams!

I will sleep in nothing short of a king sized bed. When we travel, and we get stuck in a queen...it is horrible.
plus, at home we have a dog and usually a cat or two...I wonder if I can get bigger than a King?????
Good luck on your bed fund!!!

Erin said...

I hear ya! When we first got married, a queen sized bed seemed like the perfect size. Four years, a kid, and two pregnancies later, I am DEFINITELY wishing we'd gotten the king.

Eyeglasses & Endzones said...

We took that marriage advice about 4 years into our marriage when we had our 1 year old crawling in with us...we bought the MAC DADDY then and WE don not regret it...somenights...I don't even see my hubby ;)

mimi said...

How funny.....that thought popped into my head today, that I wish we had a king size bed! We have a queen and it feels so, so small.

My mom and dad had 2 queens pushed together. Now THAT was a big bed.

I'm with you...would love a king!

Sally's World said...

LOL....in the UK bed sizes are different, our king is your full, our super king is your queen...we don't have anyhting as big as your king...I have eqivelent of your queen...i'm lucky though, my husband is a sound sleeper, so i can give him a good kicking to shift him and he doesn't remember in the morning.

The Incredible Woody said...

I am a bed hog. He is a bed hog. We learned very quickly that if we were going to sleep together, then we must have king size!! Even if no other furniture will fit in the room.....

I also agree with themrs. Separate covers. I don't share covers good either.

Tess Jones said...

Oh my goodness this is our battle also, silly queen size bed. I mean try fitting 2 adults and a baby that sleeps side ways and you know it is a fit going to happen. We so need a king size bed!

Kristin said...

We have a queen as well! I have only slept in a king on vacation, but it was nice to have your own space for once. My queen will do me for now though. A bed fund?!? Interesting!

blueviolet said...

I regret choosing a queen too! A king is so much more divisive and that's exactly what we need! lol

Mandy, Dustin and Thomas said...

We have a Queen and my husband also says I'am I bed hog. But the good thing is he is only home two nights out of the week since he is a Police Officer and works nights....so this has created the habit of me being a bed hog. So the blame is on him since he won't move to a different shift since all the action happens at night, I was thinking the same thing when it comes to our bed.....HA!

Shannon said...

LOL - we need a bigger bed also! Queen is just not big enough! :)

Alicia said...

We just moved and are currently sleeping on a queen AIR MATRESS! I WILL NOT buy a Bed until we can get a KING! I am so NOT a bed hog... *ahem* but I'm just saying we NEED a KING!

We have a queen bed, and, after 22 1/2 years of marriage, I can say it's just perfect! When we stay in a hotel with a king bed, it's WAY too big. CB and I can't even find each other.....AGH!

Stu Pidasso said...

I have a california king size water bed and it rocks!! I can flop all over that thing in the night and never touch the sides, and the heater on it keeps me snug as a bug in a rug too!

Alicia said...

We have a queen too, but I tell ya...after having our two oldest kids sleeping w/ us till they were like 7 yrs old, it feels like a California King now!! And now my little girl sleeps w/ us!! LOLOL!

mamamia said...

we have a queen, but i am only 5' 5", so it is OK. Whenever I am pregnant, there are complaints of bed hogging, and the summer is worse than normal, when we dont want to be warmed by the other.

Lissa said...

I have a King Size bed and separate blankets. Still no room. I swear that I shall have my own suite someday. Good luck to you my friend!

smiles4u said...

We have a King sized bed and it's the best. Our bedroom is small and so it takes up a lot of the room but it is worth it. You must get a king size bed!

y2krust said...

Here's injustice for you: I am single and have a king size bed . . . and it's WONDERFUL! ;-)

Marilyn said...

Definitely get a king size bed. Get one with a mattress that doesn't move when one person turns over. We have this and it is wonderful. How's the kitty doing?

Connie Weiss said...

We have a KING and a sleep number because he likes it hard and I like it soft!

Melinda said...

We have a king sized bed but even it is not big enough...there are nights where I literally have to go sleep in another room because my husband has stretched himself from corner to corner of the bed : )

blognut said...

Get yourself to a bed store and get that king sized bed.

By the way, it won't be big enough either. Nothing is.

Gabe's Girl said...

How funny! Gabe and I just got a nice bedroom suite from his parents. It is very nice hand-me down furniture. Well, the bonus was the bed is KING-sized! We bought a nice mattress (Serta pillow top!) with some new KING sized pillows. I have never slept so soundly. My daughter got our old queen set. I went to sit on it the other day to watch a movie with her and it seemed so small, but she loves it!

M said...

When we first got together we shared a twin...heck, it was college....then we had a double when we got married...it was a hand-me-down and we were poor. When we lived in UT we slept on a double size hide-a-bed couch...when we moved to S.F. my mom bought us a queen. We were in HEAVEN!! We would have gotten a king but the apartment was soooo small. Now we have a Sleep Comfort King size bed and it is the best! But we are both big people...5'10" and 6'2" so if we bend our knees in a queen size we are encroaching on each other's space! Keep saving!

Anna said...

I so agree with you on having a king bed!! I wish my husband and I had one. Our bedroom however is not big enough to hold a king though. :( Hope you can get the bed you want!!

Jen said...

I 100% agree. King is the way to go.

Jules from "The Roost" said...

OH girl...go king! ;)

SpaGirl Jenn said...

We have a King. And when the kids crawl in bed I am so thankful for it. There are days those when I so wish for a Queen. In the King we end up on opposite sides of the bed and it seems so far away....LOL

Grandma J said...

I have an antique full size bed. It's high, and I have to use a foot stool to climb up. To make matters worse, I have a four inch memory foam topper on my pillowtop mattress. HA, and I don't share.

Liz said...

I have slept with my husband in a queen bed for 11 years. Not one single complaint here. As a matter of fact, I hate the king beds in hotels. I feel that he is too far away from me. I guess I am rare breed!

Amber said...

Oh my goodness, that is SUCH great marriage advice! I also wish that someone would have told me that when I got married 3 years ago. We got a brand new queen size bed right when we got married, but soon after, put it in our guest room and got a California King!!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Pumpkin Delight said...

Ha! That is great! I hear ya...I have a CA king and I'm not even married. GO GET ONE NOW! You can roll and roll and roll and not ever hit anyone. :)

Katie said...

I think we should have got a king also. Now that I have sheets and a comforter and a nice headboard I don't want to change. Next time.. My bed is so comforatble though it will be hard to change but we have 3 kids in bed with us at times and Rob is 6 ft 2.

Katie said...

Also how is Quiency doing?

Kristin said...

Thanks for coming to check out my blog. I have a king bed and LOVE it! There is room for both of us & a stray extra if necessary mid-nightmare!

Bonnie said...

You a bed hog? No way! We had a king and switched to a queen (my hubby thought it would keep the kids from climbing in with us so much). Didn't work and I miss the KING! Good luck

ness said...

We have a full size bed which we have had since we got married. A couple of times we have stayed in hotels with king size beds and I thought maybe I would be able to sleep flat on my back with my own space. I was mistaken...hubby spent the whole night chasing me to cuddle. I can't escape that man so I keep the full size.

But man...Saturday mornings with all three kids is a juggling act....

The Eadle Family said...

Thanks for commenting on my blog! :)

I need a king sized bed. I am a definite bed hog. We have a double for now.

Mental P Mama said...

I will never sleep in anything other than a KING. Go for it. You'll never look back;)

Renee said...

Even a King isnt large enough with a hubby and three little people. We are thinking of adding a twin to the bottom. Or maybe we can play musical beds since none of the little ones beds are being used! Good luck! Get a pillow top for extra comfy!

Ragan said...

We have a queen, and once Camden starts staying in his own bed all night, it should be plenty big enough ;) Tim's really good about staying on his own side though.

jennykate77 said...

Well, you know I did go to sleep before 3...but not too much...like 2! :) I'm turning into quite the insomniac. I need prayer...prayer for sleep. I went to my fav used book store yesterday and picked up the book for next month over at The Literacy Sisters Societ...Snow in April. It looks like it's going to be a fast easy read...only 245 pages. I'm going to try to get to the bookstore this weekend and pick up a couple of the PC Cast books. What are you planning on checking out at the Library? Hope you have a FABULOUS Friday!!

Darlene said...

KING size is the ONLY size to have!!!! We even have a tiny room but will always have a KING SIZE bed!!!!! That came in handy when Lexi ALWAYS wanted to come and sleep in our bed. Also, we ALWAYS have one poodle and usually a cat sleeping with us!

RR Mama said...

Yes sister they do hog the bed! It's never us. We sleep on the same 6.2 inches of bed space every night! I to wish I had a king size bed. Or even bigger if that's possible. I need to fit one husband, two boys, and a dog!

Dirtbikes and Divas said...

KING, KING, KING!!!!! And sometimes when diva's smack in the middle, lying with her feet kicking my head and her head butting into Michael (don't all kids sleep horizontal?) we dream of designing a bed that is EVEN BIGGER!!

gretchen said...

I have a queen. I don't get accused of hogging the bed, but I do get accused of stealing the covers...whatever! I suppose I would have that problem on a King or a Queen so I guess I will stick with my queen since if I had a king I wouldn't be able to fit anything else in my room!

antoinettemariew@blogspot.com said...

since i'm a single mommie, i sleep with my five year olds feet up my behind, lol! i've learned to sleep opposite of him so i have more stretching room...problem is in the middle of the night his little mind insists on finding mommie with his feet, or sometimes a whole leg, which allows him to peacefully drift back off to sleep....i'm used to it now and have to admit, it kinds warms my heart! blessings...

The Blonde Duck said...

We have a queen! It's the only thing that fit in our room.

Cortney said...

As a single girl - I'm happy with my Full but I'm sure I'd want a queen if i had to share! My parents have slept in a full size bed together for over 30 years and they love it. Crazy!

Let's see. I've been married 22 years and we are in a queen. I guess it's working out OK:)

California King for me and the 6'6" hubby.

Brandi said...

We have a Queen - but I wish we had a King! Everytime we stay at a hotel we both say how GREAT it would be to have a King sized bed because we didn't feel the other person move at all! Yes, that advice would have been great to have - 10 years, 6 months, and 2 days ago! :)

Daphine said...

LOL! You're hilarious!

We have a king and it's wonderful!! Keep on saving girl! It will be WELL worth every penny!

Carebear said...

LOL! Funny post! Now I want to save up for the exact bed you pictured here, bedding and all. Oh and that view as well. Wonder how much that will set me back? We have a queen size, but since the baby was born, he sleeps downstairs on the pullout so he doesn't have to hear her wakeup. Wuss. Just stopped by to say thanks for entering my Support the Troops giveaway and for following! I’ll be drawing two winners on Tuesday. Hope you’re one of them!

Veggie Mom said...

I agree...King Size is the way to go, for sure!

Live.Love.Eat said...

I think we have a queen but it's all we need. Hubs sticks to one side. I LOVE that pic though!!!!!

R and R Stacy said...

We have a KING, thank goodness,. It's perfect when all 3 kids get in bed with us (but just to cuddle for a few mins). Don't get me wrong they all have their own beds so when it's time for bed, I run them off. lol
My husband is also very tall so we could NEVER do anything smaller.
That's funny that he says you hog the bed. My hubby is definitely the bed hogger in our family.

Jenners said...

Truer words were never spoken! This advice should be given to all engaged couples and they should just register for it and let everyone chip in!!! And we learned the hard way ... started with a queen and upgraded to king so now the queen is in the guest room (where I still sometimes sleep because I (apparently) snore -- ALL LIES!

thanks for visiting my blog the other day!

Thank you for the kind comment on my blog!! I wish I had a great pout picture already...may have to dig back through some archives :)

The hubs and I have had a Cali-King (that's like, super-huge) for years. And, it's a waterbed. NO KIDS ALLOWED. It's fantastic.

He still sleeps half on top of me, and steals the covers. Every night. /sigh
