The Common Cold

I was talking to one of my friends, RR Mama, this week and I told her this story. I thought I would share it with all of you because I know you need a few more reasons to nominate me for Mother/Wife of the Year.

Well, without further adieu, I present:

The common cold!
A Short Story : )

Earlier today we were getting ready to go to my Mom's for supper and Gary said, "You just don't understand what it feels like."

So, I said "Well, are you all congested and stuffed up and your head aches and your throat hurts?

-and do you feel kind of achy all over and just generally 'not right?"

and he said "Yes, now do you see what I am going thru and why I don't want to leave the house?"

and I, being the SUPER GREAT wife that I am.... : ( said

"Well, I do understand what you feel like since I have been feeling that way for almost a week."

So he said "You've never mentioned it" ...

and I said "Well, of course I don't mention a cold. I have to keep going about life.

That's what girls do."

Yeah... he didn't talk to me for an hour. Or 2.

Don't worry, I really love him VERY very much : ). I just wanted to vent my funny cold story! Does this ever happen to you?

LOL:) a few weeks ago, i got the flu. the really nasty stomach one with a fever and such. of course, the mr had to work so i was here from noon to about 9:30 pm with two 2year olds, a four year old, a six year old and a nine year old. when he got home he asked "who cleaned the house?" uh, hello? i did! just because i'm sick enough to wish for death does not mean i can call off of being a mom! he got the same thing 48 hrs later and you would have thought i was gonna have to take him to the ER. must be nice to be a man somedays huh?

hope you're feeling better :)

I have one at home right now that has called me twice already here at work to let me know how bad he feels. Nothing worse than a man with a cold,a headache, stomach ache,a fever... and getting them to take something for it ...well, is almost like asking them to get directions!

You are so right on the money, my friend! Whenever I get sick, I have to keep right on going. There's no time to rest when you're a wife and a mom and things need to be done. Chris, on the other hand, crawls into bed and takes his temp. every hour on the hour. It can be annoying, I must admit, but it's funny at the same time. Chris won't agree, I'm sure, but when I get sick, I don't really complain to him, at all. I just keep on going like the Ever-Ready bunny. He likes to go into every single detail about how bad he feels. Men!!! Gotta love 'em! :)

Oh yes I get this here too. My husbands admits fully that when he does get sick, which is rare, he is a big baby.

Isn't is SO funny (ironic funny, not "ha ha" funny) that men are the rulers of most countries, the CEO's of most businesses, but yet the common cold causes most of them to buckle and FALL?!

Yet we (the REAL ones who RUN things) just keep right on going....!!

So funny. You would think the Grim Reaper is RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR!!!

Men in general (not just Gary) are the worst patients. Everything is exaggerated times ten, yet when it happens to you, you're expected to carry on. I can tell you this, there is a reason God put the child-birth responsibilities on a woman, because if the man would have had to do it, we'd be extinct by now.

(Sorry, Gary, nothing personal, this is about other men, not you.)

My husband is the biggest baby on the planet so, I feel your pain. My other favorite is when you say you are not feeling well and then they trump you with something much worse. Men!

Men and sick are two words that don't go together so well. Tell him to take some Dayquil to get him through the day and Nyquil to get him through the night. That's how we girls roll.

I know this story all to well! My husband doesn't get sick very often, but when he does... You'd think it was the END of the world!! LOL! =)

Oh my.....men are usually big babies when they don't feel good. That's just how it is, I guess.

When I first met Sugar D he told me, "If I'm around anyone who's sick, I'll catch it." I told him he was a hypochondriac or he wasn't eating right and taking care of himself if he couldn't fight off ANYthing.

Guess how many times he's been sick since I told him that? You've guessed it....none! Maybe I've been a positive influence on him?

I'm glad you said something to Gary. Maybe it will make a difference in him like it did with Sugar D!

Hope you had a great NYE! Happy 2009!!!!

I love it! I always tease my husband by saying, "In my next life, I get to be the dad." (NOT that dads have it easy, but you know what I mean. I KNOW you know. ;-)

I hope you both get well SOON!

LOL! I must admit that...YES, I have to keep going, but I'm also a whiner when I am not feeling well. I want Dirk to feel my pain! lol!

Have a fabulous weekend lady!

Becky said...

YES! It happens all the time. Men are such whiners about having a cold... by women just deal with it. Mom power I guess. :-)

How funny!! Isn't that funny how a common cold can halt a big guy - and us girls just push on through? I hope you & your hubby feel better soon! (Thanks for the comments this week!)

Okay, I will the exception to this one. I am totally a big baby whenever I get sick and my sweet husband takes extra care of me.

To be fair, he usually just pushes through not feeling well, however, when he decides he really is sick, then he really goes all out with it! Then I take care of him.

I am sure all of this will change in the future when we do the kid thing.

Kristi said...

LOL! I think Ray and I are just the opposite. I'm more "vocal" than he is when I don't feel well. (Bless his heart.) He hardly ever gets sick either... hope that super DNA gets passed on to our kids. :)

Knock wood, I haven't had a bad cold in about four years. I shouldn't say that because, as fate would have it, I will probably get one now.

I hope Gary and you are on the mend, and Kaishon doesn't get sick.

The Man Cold. There is nothing worse.

Too funny! Thanks for sharing. My favorite mom-is-sick-but-not-complaining story is when my friend Sis and I were carpooling our kids to wrestling practice. It was her turn one day and, being the trooper she is, she drove them though she was not feeling well. Halfway there, she pulled off the freeway, opened her car door, threw up, then drove on. I like to remind my husband of that whenever he moans and groans about how sick he is when he has a cold.

kristen@nosmallthing said...

That is too funny!

I have to say, The Man around here is pretty good when he's sick. It doesn't last long, and there isn't a lot of complaining.

He does more complaining when he's well! Like how much work it is around here (if I've gone out or something). Really? It's work? Really? ;)

He's a good guy, he really is. And I'm sure your man is a good guy, too.

Hope you're BOTH feeling better!
