the Bar exam

David the gReAt! - Kaish la Paish - Bria Schmia - Levi Pie
Getting down.
Eating Ice Cream David bought!
Who in the world gave this child MOUNTAIN DEW???

David finished law school in May! We are so proud of him! Kaish and I have been praying for David (and law school and his bar exam) every single night since David and Tina came over at Christmas!

David took the bar at the end of July and the results will be in soon. I know he passed because he is a genius : ).

David came over to spend time with us recently and we went to a dairy farm to watch cows be milked and buy homeade ice cream. We had a great time. The cows were fun to watch and the ice cream was delicious! Kaishon and Sabria's favorite part of David's trip was wrestling. At Christmas David was the dominator but this was a close call! These kids just keep growing. It's scary : )!

it's coming soon... the END of Summer

I never promised you a happy ending
You never said you wouldn't make me cry
but summer love will keep us warm
long after our autumn goodbye.

Beauty and the Beast

Kaish and Sabria and I went to see Beauty and the Beast at a local theatre last Sunday. The kids loved it. They thought clapping at the end of every scene was fun! It was a great experience. I am glad we could go! Afterwards we went to see Aunt Luella in the nursing home. Going to see Aunt Luella has been one of their favorite things this summer. They laugh and giggle as many of the elderly people follow them around. One lady likes to give them kisses which delights them to no end. I love that Kaishon and Sabria are able to share their love and happiness with dear people who are sometimes sad and lonely! Aren't they they best kids in America? : )

Whoops: Bad Post!

My Mom, who is one of my favorite people on the planet (naturally : ), wanted to see the blog today. She was horrified at the post below. I had to put a new post up quickly so she would not disown me...Cross your fingers for me!

This makes me laugh so hard : ).

Free Music for your ipod

I don't have an ipod.
Lots of cool people that I know have one:
Johnny (my brother)
Joanna (his wife)
Jen (my friend-o-rama who brings-the-drama)
Valerie (my friend's way COOL daughter who is going to 8th grade! Wowser!)
None of those people read this blog, but that's ok : ).
I was just reading this blog (I don't know this person but he goes to our church and he adopted a baby, so he must be cool, right?) and he wrote about a site that is giving out free downloads for ipods. That is cool right. It almost makes me wish I had an ipod : ). Almost.
Do you have one? If so, then check this out! FREE MUSIC BY COOL PEOPLE ( I suppose)

Guess the contents...

Can you guess what Sabria put in her sippy cup this weekend? I laughed my head off. She even had a refill. You will never guess. But try : ). Please!

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Kaish and Sabria wanted an adventure on Saturday morning.
The didn't want to go to the mall.
They didn't want to go to the bookstore or the library.
They didn't want to ride their bikes.
They didn't want to make muffins.
Finally they decided we should go on a hike.
We went to a park with a hiking path.
(A winding cement pathway that was next to cornfields)
Kaishon fell and hurt his head and arm.
Blood was everwhere.
Sabria said the heat was bad for her hair and she cried.
Just in case you wonder...
We will NOT be going on any more hikes for a while : ).

5 hours of debraiding

No braids...

A History of Me : ).

Heart Shaped Hedges asked me to do this a while ago. I did the quirks but I had to really think about this. Very theraputic : ).

1. I was 12. WOW. 12 is so young isn't it. I didn't think I would ever grow up. I used to wonder around outside in our backyard. We had chickens. Johnny and Mike never wanted me to play with them. I was getting too big to play anyway though. : ).

2. I can't remember too much : ).

3. I went to a very conservative Christian school and I was super sheltered. I was just starting 7th grade. My best friend was Susannah. I think we were fighting that year though.

4. I remember that my parents took my siblings and I to Franklin Mills Mall to go back to school shopping. My Daddy spent a lot of money that day. I think $700. I remember thinking he was the best Dad in the world. He worked so hard for his money and he happily spent it on our back to school clothes. My Dad always wanted to make sure I fit in. I think he worried more about me than Betsy and Johnny because I wasn't as smart as either of them, and I was fat : ).

5. My Dad used to take my sister Betsy, my brother Johnny, and our neighbor Mike, on rides in the back of his pick up truck on Summer nights. We thought it was so much fun. I think it is illegal now. We don't have a pick up truck anymore either.

1. I had just graduated from College.

2. I was working in Washington DC at a brand new school called Hope Academy as a Kindergarten and First grade teacher. I was in love with my students: Ronnell Barnes, Vikita Turner, Ta'von Toran, LaNeisha Turner, Joseph Gadson, Melvin Johnson and D'Andre Palmer.

3. I was earning $10,000 a year, and I thought that was JUST PERFECT because I was making a difference in the world.

4. My parents saved up to take our family on a great Disney vacation with our friends the Harris'. It was really amazing! I am thankful we could do that together.

5. My Grandma Kindel passed away and it broke my heart. I still miss her every single day.

1. I was a social worker in Philadelphia. I worked crazy hours and drove around the city like a mad woman. I cried every day on my way home because the sadness of the hurting children was overwhelmingly tragic.

2. Kaishon was 3 and he was so much fun. We went on all kinds of adventures. My Mom watched him every day for me so I could work. Kaish was the happiest little kid you would ever want to meet! Everyone loved him!

3. I gave up buying any clothes at all for one year so I could support my friend Jason who was being a missionary in Africa.

4. I didn't think I would ever get married.

5. I experienced a tragedy at my job with one of the families I worked with and left that agency.

1. I started being a social worker in an elemenary school! LOVED it!

2. Kaishon had just graduated from Kindergarten and was getting ready for first grade.

3. Gary and I had just started dating.

4. My family remained supportive of Kaishon and I. We were well loved in our home and my Dad always told me that I could stay with them forever. There was no time limit on our living situation! (Now, my Mom on the other hand...she was VERY ready for me to leave : )

5. Kaishon and I went on airplanes to Boston, Massachusettes (Maggie's wedding), Nebraska (Babysitting for the Beckett's) and Colorodo (Cousin Richard's wedding) during the summer. He was a well travelled child!

1. Kaishon and I got married to Gary. VERY exciting stuff : ).

2. We bought a new townhouse in Souderton, Pa. One of my very best friends, Jen Martello, moved 1 mile from us. We rekindled our friendship and now I get to be Aunt to her three fabulous daughters; Sienna, Mila and Sofia. And lucky her, she gets to be Kaishon's Aunt Jen : )! She helps me so much every single week I honestly can't imagine life without her!

3. I had just started a new position at my agency.

4. It was hard to leave my parents. I missed them a lot. They were an amazing support system for me during my 20's when Kaish and I were floundering : ). It took a while to get used to our new home and family.

5. Gary was working 7 days a week and we were all stressed to the MAX!

This year

1. I want Kaish to enjoy going to school. I want him to feel succesful and happy.

2. I want our walls to get painted. I am going crazy in a color less world. (We had to wait one year to paint according to the company that built)

3. I hope we get to go to the beach again with my parents and Johnny and Betsy and their families. We had such a nice vacation this year.

4. I hope Gary's Dad comes for Christmas.

5. I want to be more thankful for the blessings of each day. I hope I can stop being so mean and grouchy towards the end of the day! I hope I can help the children I work with in Philadelphia!

Happy Birthday Susannah

i miss you. a lot. happy 32nd birthday.

Quirk 1Quirk 2

My new friend, Heart Shaped Hedges, wants me to do a blog about qUiRKs... Now seriously, I have a ton. I just have to think of them. I have been trying all day. I just asked Kaishon and Sabria to help me and here is what they said:

1. Kaishon said that I freak out about every gray hair in my head. There are millions and millions and I am only 32. I think he is right. I do freak out about those : (. I used to pull them, when I was young and foolish and 28 but now that I am OLD and WISE, I just look at them and feel sick to my stomache (oh, and I look in my bank account and see if there is enough money to get them colored over : )

2. Sabria said I freak out about any spots or stains on the carpet. This is true. I don't know if it is a quirk though, because doesn't everyone freak out about carpet spots. Especially spots like BLOOD from bike accidents! Now, if you just got in a bike accident, would you stand on the wood floor and beckon help, or would you walk onto the carpet and then lay down and writhe around in pain splattering blood everywhere????? I definitely freaked out about that senseless blood shed on my WHITE carpet. I am a freak outer! What can I say?

3. I go crazy if our trash isn't out by 5:00 PM the night before pick up. Gary thinks this is hilarious as it just has to be out before the trash truck comes at 7:00 or 8:00 the next moring and he goes to work at 5:00. I just get VERY worried if it isn't sitting at the end of our driveway by night fall. Wierd and Quirky for sure : )! ( I thought of this one all by myself)

4. It really bothers me when people don't drink well water and insist on bottled water. I think that is hoity toity and I can't stand it. Now if there is some poison or something in your water and you can't drink it, then by all means, get the special bottles of water, but really, if you just don't love the taste of your regular water...add some lemons or something. Do you really need to pay $50 a month or more for water from those big coolers? Really? WATER? Hmmmmm.

5. I can't stand mean people. I mean I really, really, really can not stand them. Why do they even come out of their houses in the morning? I think they should just stay holed up and leave us alone. For instance, there is this man in our neighborhood, that is SUPER mean. He drives a fast car and he almost kills my children when they are bike riding all the time. I have asked him very nicely to slow down. He grunts. I always smiled at him. He glared back. Finally one day, I was in a bad mood, and he was speeding around in his little car. He grunted at me, so I said, "The next time you ride in this development like a maniac I am going to call the police." He just grunted again. Whatever. Is he lonely? Is he just a horrible bitter man? How can you be 40 and that mean? Is this a quirk, or does everyone hate mean people. I think everyone hates mean people. I am too lazy to erase this and think of a new quirk though!

6. People always think I am happy and nice. I think this is because my face is round and I smile a lot. I am not always happy and I am not always nice! Ask Kaishon or Sabria or my Mom and Dad...or even Gary : ). You should hear how mean I am when the trash does not go out until 10:00 pm or when there is a blood spot on the white carpet. I am SUPER DUPER MEAN

I will do the other one soon. I have had enough therapy for one day...oh, and I need to clean up the BLOOD in the CAR....Lots of blood lately! My friend Erica has been blogging for a long time, but if she has never done this, I know it would be interesting : ) My friend Stephanie is a missionary to Chile and I am sure she would have some interesting quirks as well. I also have a FABU friend named Gretchen who doesn't even know that I blog. (It's a long story.) But maybe I will work up my courage and tell her and then she can do this post too : ).

social working

Yesterday I was a real social worker : ). I worked from 7:00 am until 9:00. (PM of course!) I made so many home visits it would make you cry. I came home last night at 10:15 and I was EXHAUSTED...but also happy.

I have missed doing home visits this summer.

I didn't miss the dirty houses but I did miss the people.
I didn't miss the search for a parking spot but I did miss the children.
I didn't miss the crude comments from drunk and high people on the streets, but I did miss the smiles.

I love my job. I love the children and families in the city of Philadelphia. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have to work with humanity.

Listen to this song. God of this City. I am so glad God loves these children and families. I do too!

the 4th of July on the 4th of August : )

My Best Friend Jen hosted a fabulous Fourth of July Party.
Kaish and Sabria were so sad that it was raining and the town's fireworks were cancelled. Jen's friend, Todd, put on a fireworks show for the kids in the backyard. The kids LOVE everything that happens at Aunt Jen's house. She is 'like WAY cool.' Every night when I am tucking the kids in Sabria tells me how much she loves Aunt Jen. I hope I can be as cool as her someday : ).

good ideas

Do you ever use this? To give or to get? I want to. Soon. The garage is overflowing with things to share.

I just read about this today- when I was reading THIS great blog.

I go here: almost every day! I have learned how to change air conditioner filters, clean out my garbage disposal AND clean grease off paint : ). Basically, I need a LOT of help : ).

Do you like to take silly and sometimes sensless quizzes? You have to check this site out!

It's Friday night and only 7:30. I am already in my pj's. I gave the kids
Chili Cheese Dip and Tostito's chips for supper. They want to go out again. I am done for the week. TOO much stress.

My sister Betsy and my friend Jen helped me so much during this very stressful week. I am glad to have them. I am going to bed right. this. second. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Oh, one more thing you need! I can't stand when people don't pay enough for babysitting. Seriously, your kids are the most valuable things in the universe. How can you not pay for quality childcare? ICK! Go make sure you give enough. : ).

I hope Gary puts the kidgets to bed whenever he gets home! There is a good chance he won't though. I might find them still watching DVD's when I get up tomorrow at 8:00 (or 10:00)! We shall see! Obviously, I am not too worried about it : ). It is, after all, the last month of summer vacation!
