married for 365 days

Today marks our very first anniversary. This year has been cRaZy. AND wOnDeRfUl!

There were so many things I wasn't expecting. Who knew I would marry someone that wanted to HOG the whole bed every single night? (He says I am the bed hog, but we all know that is a LIE!) I keep asking Gary if this was the best year of his life. He doesn't answer. Ever.

Oh well. I was expecting something different than what it was. But what it was, wasn't bad. We learned a lot. And grew as people.

So even though he doesn't say this was the best year of his life, I have to admit, this was the best year of my life so far. My parents and siblings are happy. My friends are thriving! I married a wonderful man who loves my WONDERFUL son and we just started our "Happy Ever After."

Great Summer Reads

Rebeckah's Pick: The Center of Everything by Laura Moriarty. I don't even know how this ended up in my book bag last week. It was so good that I stayed up until 3:00 am this morning finishing it. It was so good that I want to blog about it instead of doing my paperwork which is due in less than 24 hours. This book was thought provoking. Kaishon's pick: Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Cantos. Kaishon liked this book because the little boy has ADHD and he has a hard time in school (kind of like Kaish : () There is good resolution in the book though as Joey gets help for his problems and eventually returns to school. We can't wait to read the rest of the series.Sabria's pick: Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. Sabria likes this book because "there are lots of rhymes and Miss Bindergarten is a Dog." Who wouldn't love a dog for a teacher, right?

Gary's pick: I just sent him a text at work to see if he had a favorite book and he wrote back and said this, "Aren't you supposed to be working? I haven't read a book in a long time. I don't want to give a pick." So there you have it : ).

What great books have you read lately?

Thankful for Church on Tuesday

We went to church on Sunday morning. It was hectic getting everyone dressed neatly and appropriately. (Sabria couldn't understand why she couldn't wear her bathing suit top as a shirt because it matched her skirt and Kaishon found some old sneakers he LOVED when he was in kindergarten and he insisted they still fit and he just could not grasp why I would mak him wear regular shoes when the other ones were SO cool!!!) We did make it on time and appropriately attired and the kids loved their Sunday School lesson. On our way home we were all talking about how thankful we are for the way God takes care of us every day. I am thankful God continues to love and care for us daily despite our many failings. I am thankful Kaishon and Sabria are growing up knowing God's greatness.

Cooking Class

I signed Kaishon up for Cooking Classes this Summer at a cooking school for kids in our area called Young Chef's Academy. Sabria, Mila and Sienna have been coming to the classes as well since we usually all hang out together on Thursdays. They had a fun time this week making Fruit Salad and Shrimp and Chicken Kabobs. Aren't they the cutest kids? I just LOVE them!

Happy Half Birthday...

Today, we are celebrating Kaishon and Sabria's Half Birthday : ). Both of them have January Birthdays. Kaishon has been wanting to drive a golf cart all Summer. So today, we went to a golf course near our house called Twin Woods Golf Club, and I asked the very nice older lady who owns the club if we could pay greens fees and drive the cart around for a while. She told me that it is dangerous to drive a golf cart around, but she would take Kaish and Bria on a ride. They were gone for about 30 minutes. She refused all monetary offers. I love kind people. We are having a Half Birthday Party tonight! Who says only children are spoiled? : )

Creeped out at the Pool!

Yesterday, at the pool, I got creeped out by a man sitting near us. He was asking a lot of questions about the kids. Not normal questions because they are black and I am white, but really creepy questions. I came home and looked up our neighborhood sex offenders. So scary. He wasn't listed in our neighborhood, thank goodness. Hopefully I won't see him again. Go check out your neighborhood. Better safe than sorry!

Can I tell you how BAD this week is?!?!?!?!?

There is SO much paperwork to do for my job.
It never ends. It is driving me CRAZY!
If I hadn't bought this AMAZINGLY delicious gelato at the grocery store last night I think I would have gone CRAZY earlier today. I basically have been eating it NON STOP since Midnight last night! If your grocery store carries it ( I don't know if HEB does : ) you must go get it. It is seriously good!
These are also providing a little sanity. I got them at the grocery store too. How pretty, right?
And here are three of the greatest kids on the planet : ). They have put up with my extreme mood swings and bursts of tears! LoVe ThEm LiKe CrAzY! I don't know if I can survive this week!

Favorite sites of the summer : )

I really LOVE Grandma's. Mine were so spectacular. This one is clever. She has many interesting posts and I always laugh when I am reading about her day.
I just LOVE this Mom's creative background on her blog. So pretty. I also love her happy music. Her kids are so cute.
This young professional is on the path to wealth and he wants others to be also. Nice.
Sabria and Kaish have been playing here every day.
I LOVE everything Paula Dean makes : ). Don't these sticky buns look yummy? mmmmmm.
Another game we love : ).
