My Mom and Coach Purses

A long time ago (like 1999ish) I saw a black leather Coach purse at Marshalls or Ross. It looked just like the purse above.
I wasn't a brand snob, but I did know that Coach was a good brand and the purse was a good deal.
I bought it and brought it home.
I could never use it because it was so expensive and I was worried I would ruin it.
I paid $69 or something- but I looked it up and it was worth $299. Crazy good deal, right?
One day my Mom said she wanted it.
I gladly gave it to her. She was, after all, the best Mother on the planet : ).
About a week later I saw her leaving with a purse.
It looked vaguely familiar.
It was the Coach.
She had CUT off the embellishments on the front of the bag.
She had taken off the Key Chain and THROWN it away...
I couldn't believe it.
I asked her why she had destroyed the Coach purse.
And you know what she said?
"I don't even know what Coach is. I just wanted a simple black purse. You can have it back though. I don't think it has enough room for my stuff."
And that was the end of that : ).
Do you have a favorite kind of purse?

Oh my gosh.... I almost hate to tell you this.
My mother in law gave me a Coach purse for Christmas 3 or 4 years ago. I have NEVER used it. Ever. It's ugly. It's has big C's all over it. (Yes, I know it's the Coach "C".) It's just not "me".... I'm so NOT a name-brand shopper...and I NEVER get stuff that ADVERTISES what it is, if you know what I mean...)

However, I would have LOVED that pretty handbag in your picture and I would have NEVER mutilated it!!! I bet your heart sank when you saw what your Mom did!

I still have the Coach bag (and matching wallet) that my MIL gave me in my closet. I'm embarrassed that I've never used it (because I know it was expensive) but it's just not my style.

Maybe I should go to the Coach store and see if I can trade it for something cute. (Something that doesn't have big C's on it!!)

This is so funny!!!!
Coach got me a COACH bag for my
39th birthday. It has my initials monogramed on it and I have used it everyday since then (over 2 years old)
your mom cracks me up.
Oh, and I am not talking to Happy Wife Happy Life anymore for making fun of my purse!

Oh that is sweet. Some people get consumed with labels. It seems that everyone has a real or fake this or that these days. So all the people with the real deal don't really seem like a big deal anymore. It is funny. I like what I like no matter what the brand.

That is so funny...your mom sounds a lot like me, actually. I could care less about labels. If it's functional and reasonably priced, I'm good to go. I just can't imagine paying "top dollar" for some of the name brand purses that are on the market today. I'm one who likes to stretch the dollar and is more practical minded. Guess it's just the way I was raised.

Have a blessed Christmas!!!

I love Coach, but it is so way out of my price range. I am with Happy Wife..., I don't like the C pattern. The leather ones like your mom "destroyed" are the ones I like the best. I love purses, but get so frustrated when they become bottomless pits. I want to design a purse that is like a filing cabinet, where I can always find everything I need. You'd buy one right?

OK that is crackin me up!!! Too funny! I love purses I have to say...too many kinds to name but Coach is right up there ;)

Oh that is funny! I don't care what the purse name is if I like it I like it! I also can't seem to pay very much for a purse.

My favorite purse is anything that is super cute AND on clearance! :) I don't think I have ever owned a brand name purse in my life - not to say I never will - just never have and I can't bring myself to pay that much money for one!

That totally sounds like something my mom would have done!

I must say I LOVE Coach purses. I want one every spring and every fall. I don't always get one, especially now that I am a stay at home mom! I've always wanted to splurge and get a really nice louis vuitton or marc jacobs bag! I must admit I am a brand name junkie! :( Now that I have kids, I am realizing I need to change my ways!

The purse I carry every day I bought at Ross... it's dark red, leather, really pretty and it came with a matching wallet AND an umbrella. All for $14.99!!

I only use small ones that I can not weigh down. I have back problems. So at times I do not carry any.

I have a backpack that is basically my purse these days...it has diapers and snacks in it too! Nothing as nice as this purse, with the Coach tags or no! That is a crazy story though! Merry Christmas! :)

Your background kind of reminds me of the fabric of a purse. I have two Coach purses...both gifts from my mother. I used them rarely since for years I either used a diaper bag or a cheap purse from Target. Well, over the summer the Walmart bag was beyond all hope, so I moved on to the darker of the two Coach purses. I feel more grown up using it in a way. Also, since the purse is smaller I cannot cram as much stuff in...which is a good thing.

Happy Holidays!

Oh my goodness, that sounds like something I would do if one of my daughters gave me a purse like that. I have no clue to the name of something that should be expensive...I probally should care but I don't. I don't care if something is expensive or worth a lot of money because it has a name behind it, if it's ugly I won't use it. I love the purse I have now...it cost me .50 at a garage sale over a year ago. I love it because it's small and light and I can hang it around me so that my arms are free to handle children. I do like that black purse in the picture though but I wouldn't like it more because it's expensive.

I think it was really sweet of you to give the purse to your mother!

I have this Liz Claiborne bag I have been hauling around for a few years now! You think it may be time for a change? I'm gonna get to it right after I clean out my closet!!

Merry Christmas!

I came over for WW (I'm a little late!), but I had to comment on this post!

I happen to love Coach, so this made me gasp a little!

OMG! She cut the embellishments and the tag off????!?!?! I would have hyperventilated and passed out. My fav brand of purses (and other things) is Coach. And I don't buy them to look at them, I buy them to use them...they're meant to be used. Coach is totally durable and they have lifetime guarantees. If anything goes wrong with them, other than standard wear and tear, Coach will replace your bag or atleast give you a monetary amount to go toward your next Coach purchase. It's quality!

Hahaahha nice! I got a Coach wallet from a friend for my birthday one year. I gave it to my sister, I don't do purses or wallets. That's what pockets are for!
