The Real Meaning of Christmas

We learned about the real meaning of Christmas this morning in church.

I was apprehensive at first because there was a WOMAN teaching.

I have never sat in a church before and heard a woman speak.

Now, don't get me wrong; I LOVE women : ).

I think they are smart and wonderful and kind human beings and truly FABULOUS teachers.

I just didn't know they could 'teach' in church because when I was growing up that was strictly tabu in our church and in all of our circles.

I am glad I didn't close off my heart to the great lesson that was shared.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:16-17

The teacher ended the lesson today by saying,

"What will you do this Christmas season to show you are one of God's children?"

Good stuff, right?
Are you excited about worshipping Jesus this Holiday season?

God is good all the time!
All the time, God is good!

Hi, hope all is well. Where I am now. My Daughters boy friends Mom goes to a church with a lady who leads there church. I went there 2 times. As my daughter may get married there. I found this lady was from the baptist religion. And had a calling to preach. But was not allowed to speak. So when this church lost there minister she was asked to help out. She was such a blessing to them they asked her to stay.
As for me I have not found a church here I feel I belong at. As with this one I don't know yet. And with others I am attacked for my catholic back ground.
I raised my kids with freedom of choice. They mostly went to baptist and nondenominational churches. But I removed them from places that taught them to judge others. As I live my life judge not. I only look for churches that have that atmosphere. One day I will find my place.
Have a great weekend my friend.

God IS good! I feel the same way about women teachers preaching to the church since the Bible says they shouldn't be in authority over men. I am glad that you were blessed nonetheless. :-)

I agree... God is SO good! I look forward to doing as much for others as I possibly can, whether it be donating money, my time, or just going out of my way to show others how much I care.

I love Christmas and everything it symbolizes, don't you? It's such a magical time of year.

Love to you!

I love going to church every Sunday and Holiday. His love brings me back over and over, and each week I feel renewed.

Great story. I'm glad that you didn't close your heart to what she had to share. I love the question "What will you do to show you are one of God's children?" It is so easy to get consumed with the commercialism of Christmas and all the other things going on at this time of year and forget what we are celebrating and the message we are giving to those around us.
Thanks for the great thought to end my weekend with!

my understanding of the women preacher deal is that women are not to be in authority over men, as a usual practice. Not because they are less than a man, but because God set it up that way. There is nothing wrong with a woman teaching on occasion. I'm glad the message blessed you!

That is how the pastor at our church always closes the service! "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!" (I guess it's a modern translation of Romans 8:28, right?)

Anyway, wanted to let you know I left you a comment about the "cat issue" back on my blog....

Great post! My family had the honor of lighting the first Advent Candle at church yesterday. (The Prophet Candle) My daughter read a brief overview of the Advent Wreath, and the Prophet Candle. I read the scripture, and hubby lit the candle and prayed. It was wonderful!

I'm SO done with the commercialism. This year is going to be VERY different in my home:)

I'm Catholic, so know all about woman not being allowed to speak. Now in our church, women are allowed to do readings, but only the priest or deacons can do the main Gospel reading. Only the priest is allowed to preside over Communion. Priests are all men. I'm not sure if deacons can be men or women or only men. In our church the deacon is male and can be married. The priests are always unmarried. The Catholic church is very male dominated. Nuns have very little say so on anything.

I will remember to not get bigged down in the present giving and commercialism of Christmas.

I have a new post up on my desire to lose weight--an ongoing struggle for me.

I never knew that was tabu for a woman.

But yes, I am truly excited about Jesus being the reason for the season :) Have a great weekend.
