Museum 4 Me or Should we be Entrepreneurs?

It all started with Jen's accidental discovery of this place: Museum 4 Me (please click : )
She was SO excited about this place! She wanted us to open one. IMMEDIATELY!
Last weekend we took a little trip to Lemoyne, PA, which is right outside of Harrisburg, to visit.
The kids loved it.
The owner is so sweet.
Jen wants us to lease a building ASAP and start our own Children's Play Museum!
I think we have to think it thru a little more.
This area is heavily populated with Mothers and children!
Everyone is ALWAYS looking for something to do.
Please Touch in Philadelphia is fantastic, but a little far.
Have you ever started a business?
Any advice would be welcome.

We have not started our own business but we own one and partly own another. It does sound like a good idea.
For many years the hubby has had an idea for a drop off babysitting service. Where parents can drop the kids off at a place (a hand's on play/fun place) for a few hours to do dinner or a movie. Place it in a populated area near restauants and theaters and charge by the hour. I think it would have been a great idea and most likely would work, but I just did not want to spend my time there....selfish who??
He even had a name for it: The Zoo. Decorated in animals.
Now, if I see one of those pop up in your area, I want a Cut$$$.
:)
You are such a "kid" person, something like a hands on museum/indoor play place would be perfect.

wow! What a fun place! I want to take my students there!! I wish we had one near us too! As far as starting a business, I did Mary Kay, well still do but I don't like to do the parties b/c I hate makine people feel like they have to buy. I honestly do it b/c I like the products and get a discount. I've found having to ask friend is not good for your friendships.

A place like this, however, I think would be great. It isn't trying to get people to buy something it is getting them to enjoy themselves and most of all LEARN!! You could really market it to school classrooms! GO for it!

Looks like a FUN place! My girls would love a museum like that close by. We have to drive about an hour to the closest children's museum.

I have never started a business, but I spent a couple of decades in retail management, several at the district level....you and Jen should draw up a business plan. You already have a mentor at Museum 4 Me.
I think you would be great at it.

Tell Kaishon that I had nothing to do with Pooper's nickname...and I definitely would take him to Rainforest Cafe if he came here..or Texas.

I wish there was someplace like that in my area that I could take my granddaughters to. Looks like everyone had a good time.

I don't have the endurance or the courage to start a business, but there are lots of organizations that can help you get started. You can check with your local government for help.

I think the museum is a great idea.

Rebeckah, your comment was SO touching to me, I cannot express. I feel like I am still working to be a better person everyday and have a long way to go. I feel so fortunate to be connected at all with women like you. I believe it's helping me to be that better person. Funny aside: when you said "even when I was talking beef or something" it made me chuckle. Hah. I have never owned a business though I can see owning a quaint cafe where everyone knows your name. Have a great weekend!!!!!!

Yes, I have my own business, but it's more a service...so no leases, insurance, etc. My advice: Do your research and a SWOT analysis (sorry to sound all "businessy" but it will help you determine your direction). Also, GO FOR IT! Don't let the analyzing scare you...as the Zen saying goes: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Good luck!

Sounds like a great idea! However....I used to own my own business and it takes alot of long hours to get things up and running....and then you have to continue. I know you're used to hard work, but it just seemed like the work never ended. I'm by no means trying to discourage you....I'm certain you can do ANYthing you set your mind to. But, you asked for our experiences with business ownership and those are my thoughts.

If you do start it, I might be hitting you up for a job if I don't find something soon, lol!

Keep us posted! It would be a great side-blog project to follow the process if you decide to do it!

ttyl!

Hi there. When you get a chance can you give me your email address again. You often leave comments I want to respond to right there rather than taking up your comment room. You're so sweet!!!

(did you purposely not select your email address to show when you comment. I know some people do choose that but let me know if you want that and just don't know how)
