I hate HOME sales Parties! Yes I do!

Aren't these Petite Bud Vases from Southern Home delightful? Oh yes, they are! Are they so delightful that you would want to spend $43 on them? No. ABSOULUTELY NOT! Who would spend that much on these 3 delightful vases? You are wondering, right?

I HATE HOME PARTIES! (And I really don't like to use that word hate often...) Here's the thing. I know that these sweet women are trying to make their fortune out in the world. I know they got conned by the companies on promises of grandeur and easy lifestyles. I am sure that there are many successful Mary Kay and Tupperware ladies in the world... BUT I just can't stand the parties.

Everyone always says, "You absolutely do not have to buy a thing. Just come to my fun little party." And you go, and you try so hard NOT to buy anything. You think about how nice everything looks but how much cheaper you could get it on CLEARANCE at Ross' or Marshalls!

You think about how your stinking bank account is at $3! You think about how your 401K lost $20,000 in the last year. You think about how your kid can't be in acting class this semester because you are so broke...and then, you succomb to the guilt.

You find the cheapest (but coolest thing) in the magazine. You take the little pen and you fill in your information. Your stomach sinks because you know you really should be buying a tank of gas with that $31. You squash your guilt and hand the order form to the cosultant while grabbing some delicious snacks.

She gives it back.

$31 for some pretty vases. $12 for the shipping?!?!?!?!? What can you do?

I would like to end this post by inviting you to my OWN delightful Southern Home Living Party! Please come! AND, please, please, PLEASE don't feel like you have to buy a thing. Wink.

If you host these parties (or any other) please don't take offense. This is just my perspective. I have gone to MANY parties and I ALWAYS have fun with my friends that are at the parties. I LOVE the food. I usually even like the products. I'm just cheap! Good luck with your business : )!

Hi Rebeckah -- thanks for stopping by Foolery today!

I was being pretty silly about the whole baking for kindergarten and not working in the classroom issue. I really do know my child's kindergarten teacher, and she knows me (after two kids now). But that feeling of parental failure at the pit of my stomach is always lurking, you know? I took it out on those stupid cookies, ha ha.

I will fake death to get out of a shopping party, so I know how you feel.

Off to fake death,

Laurie @ Foolery

Oh my goodness Rebeckah, it took me years just years to say NO to these parties. You could not pay me to go to one now. I'm too busy clipping coupons to go! AND you are so right you can get the same thing else where for so much less. You must be a real good friend! :)
Have a really great week,
Who really is planning on getting off this computer soon! :)

LOL! You had me laughing through this post! It is soooo you in how you wrote it. =) But it is also soooo true. I seriously wonder if anyone likes going to those parties. I bought a set of stamp things back when stamping parties were the craze. I DON'T stamp! At least you buy practical things like vases! =) One nice thing about living in the sticks is you can avoid the shopping parties!

PS - I've been posting a lot of pics this week that Kaishon might like. =)

You are so funny. I have the southern living tray in the picture...not the vases. I have a good friend that sells it. I have had a few parties in the past. Really, I enjoy doing it just to have girl friends over. I go all out with good food and wine.
This past 2 years though...no parties for me. I have so many friends that are unemployed or struggling...I would not dare. We look to be in the same boat soon. Thinking of NOT doing my fabulous bathroom remodel...oh, such is life. I can't complain about that on my blog cause Hubby reads it. :)
I would however come to YOUR party. in a heartbeat.
Sending good thoughts to Quince.

Oh my word! that ws the most hilarious thing I have read in a VERY long time!! I totally agree and do the exact same thing, but can I add, I hate SCHOOL FUNDRAISERS. I'd rather just give the school $10 rather than buy something I won't ever use! LOL!!

I do love those vases...but I have to say I usually skip the parties because I know I will buy something if I am there and I usually can't afford it! TJ Maxx, now that I can afford!

I know! I compare them to the mafia...they get ya in and it's hard to get out. They are fun, but I agree...that plate would fill up my gas tank for a week.

I don't mind home parties..but I do feel somewhat obligated to buy something. I know the hostess says no, but really, that's the only way they get credits. Some people actually make a decent living doing home parties, but they are highly organized and motivated. They also reach beyond their circle of friends, neighbors and relatives.
I do have a pet peeve..it's all the fundraising for schools and youth sports. The idea of them being in the form of contests, really puts the squeeze on me. I mean I have ten grandkids, they all go to school and they all participate in sports. I haven't said no yet, but it's getting there.
I sent a card to Quince and his family. Thank you for being such a good friend.

Hey there. Those are beautiful and I am loving your new look here. Very nice!!!!! I do like going to some of those parties and most often I do buy something but never because I have to.

Your post was so perfect!! I have gotten to the point that I just can't go to the parties! The pricing really is so high and if I "have other plans" and just don't go (or take a catalog) I do so much better.

I have to stay away from these because I am an easy mark. Especially jewelry parties. Put something shiny in front of me and I lose all perspective. And I am always the sucker that books the next party because I'm whipped up into a frenzy about the products. Then I get into my car and snap out of it and wonder why I paid $63 for the Gracie Bracelet! People don't make eye contact with me for weeks knowing I might invite them to my party!

lol! I had to laugh! You said what everyone else thinks! I am basically partied out! And some of those women are so high pressure with their sales! I have bought many a thing at various parties and paid way too much, then never used it, tried selling it on ebay, and it then goes for pennies! It's basically overpriced JUNK! hah!!!!!!

You know what I'm thinking?
R-E-T-U-R-N!!! :)

I agree with buying stuff at parties. It wouldn't be so bad, but then the shipping is what kills me. I too hate the guilt of the party.

Once our friend invited us to a "margarita party" that turned out to be a candle party. Talk about bait and switch!

Rebeckah, Ha ha! I totally know exactly what you mean about this! I just don't go anymore, because I know it is money out the door that I don't want to spend.

Same reason I'm going to stop going to all of my favorite stores...

Haha I skip the parties because I know I can not afford to buy anything!!
I use to sell Mary Kay and now I am anti party girl.(parties that involve me buying something that is)
Your right you can not go and not feel like you have to buy something.

I think I know what you mean..
BUT, I so have that tray! Because, I too, got caught up in the "party". I do love the tray. But it cost me. No, I cannot remember exactly how much. But I KNOW it cost me.
